BS... it should be finders keepers if no one claims it.

No, it's finder's keepers and everyone now is going to keep whatever property they find, instead of going through the effort to 'do the right thing'.

If she simply kept the money; she would be $2,000 richer. By being honest; she was essentially robbed of $2,000.

I submit that the idiots at the Dallas Police Dept, will have cost the citizens of Dallas far more harm than whatever possible good they could have gotten from that money. They have undermined the trust and goodwill a law-abiding citizen should feel about the police department. I submit that $200 Million in goodwill will not repair the damage these idiots have done over $2,000.

Here's the contact information for the mayor's office.

http://www.ci.dallas.tx.us/forms/mcc/mayor_mail_contactus.htm

Here's the note I sent His Honor:

Ashley Donaldson, and the whole country, learned something useful. The Dallas Police Department apparently does not consist of honorable peace officers in business to serve and protect, but of mercenary thugs.

OK -- a kid does the right thing. The cops get $2,000 to toss into their doughnut fund. And the city gets a black eye in front of the whole nation.

The decision to punish, rather than to reward, Ashley's honesty, makes Dallas an uglier place to live. You get what you reward, you suppress what you punish. Someone decided that a less honest, a less honorable, Dallas was a desirable thing.

Kindly find out who that someone was, fire his ass, and make things right. The ball in in your court.
