In my neck of the woods, Glassboro State U. was gifted $100 million by Henry Rowan. It’s now Rowan University. He who pays the piper...

In our neck of the woods, Florida Presbyterian College became Eckerd College when Jack Eckerd gifted them 12.5 million. The Golden Rule...them that have the gold, rule, LOL.

The St Petersburg Times has an example of this in their own town.

Down near the US-19 Skyway Bridge at the south side of town is a small liberal arts college founded in 1958. It was called Florida Presbyterian College. It was having financial problems in the early 1970s and was searching for a large, long duration, funding source.

It is now called Eckert College after Jack Eckert of the old Eckert drug store chain. The price of getting this financial support was renaming the college.

I can not help it if the St Petersburg Times reporting staff has such a problem with long term memory that they produce opinions masquerading as news articles.
