"Yes, anyone associated with Showbiz seem to have screws loose."

IMHO, it's almost a requirement. In order to easily and successfully immerse one's self in a fictitious character in a fictional storyline, one must have the ability to detach one's self from reality. Very rare are the actors and actresses who reach the highest state of their art and stay grounded in reality. How many times have we seen thespians giving testimony about or embracing causes based on a role they played? They really believe they have developed some sort of expertise and insight simply because they memorized a script. What makes them truly dangerous are those persons in the public at large that actually listen to and believe them.

No, actually, people who pretend to be other people for a living ALSO pretend to be those other people in their domestic entanglements. It’s all one endless movie where you get to cast yourself into the parts you want, and not worry about producers and the like.

Good one. But of course my wife also had on a full complement off clothing; after all, we were out at the theater, in the Big Apple. However she once did do Halloween as dry cleaning, where she wore nothing but a plastic bag, a hanger coming up from her shoulders, and a receipt stapled to he front. ( smiley-face emoticon here)

"Alone?"

Nope! Been going to bed with the same woman for almost 56 years.

As a baby Boomer I always had a crush on the Redgrave Ladies.
With such a sordid family life I guess I can forgive a lot here.
I can almost see why Vanessa went off on such a tangent with the far left politics.
Her brother died lat year along with her sister Lynn, very sad all the way aroound.

and the politicians who asked them to do it and take them seriously have screws loose too

Fascinating stuff in the article.....the life-styles of the rich and bonkers.

The characters were so interwoven that to keep them straight (!) I had to diagram the hetero and homo affairs like sports announcers diagram baseball games.

Personally, I never found any of the Redgraves all that good-looking, although makeup helps (except for those long British chins).

As a classic movie buff, I do still enjoy many of Sir Michael's old British WW2 films.....he always looked good as a naval officer in full, impressive uniform.

I would bet that the average Hollyweird or New York actor or director would read this story and think: so what’s wrong with having sex with your wife’s father? They wouldn’t understand why people might be appalled and probably would make a film or play about nasty, evil, judgmental Christians condemning two people who just want to have a little love. Think Woody Allen.

“They did some serious damage.”

I didn’t mean to suggest that domestic communists weren’t a serious problem. We had them too. The U.S. mole Alger Hiss was thought to have single handedly delivered Poland to Stalin, by informing the Russians of Roosevelt’s fall back negotiating positions in advance of the Yalta conference.

Then there was the pansy couple from the NSA during the 50’s, who eloped to the USSR.

Got a link?

No, but it happened. I distinctly remember the newspaper headline in the NY Daily News during the middle or late 50’s. It stuck in my mind because that was the first time I had heard about the NSA, and the terminology in the story had the words “Red Fairy snatchers”, which cracked me up.

I just rooted around for an old book about somebody’s KGB memoirs, but couldn’t locate it. I’ll keep trying.

“Got a link ?”

Now I do. and I found the book . “The Mitrokhin Archive” by Christopher Andrew and Vasilii Mitrokhin (Penguin Books), Page 448.

“In 1960, two NSA employees, Bernon F. Mitchell and William H. Martin, who had made contact with the KGB a year earlier, in Mexico City, were exfiltrated by the FCD to Moscow, where they continued being debriefed for several years. “

I just now googled “Bernon F. Mitchell and William H. Martin, NSA” and found the following link:

http://www.seattleweekly.com/2007-07-18/news/the-worst-internal-scandal-in-nsa-history-was-blamed-on-cold-war-defectors-homosexuality.php/

As for the gay angle, the Seattle weekly protests that there is no proof that they were gay, and that they were at least switch hitters because they both had girl friends. Anyhow, there’s a lot about these guys on Google.

Revelations of a witch-hunt gone astray don't surprise former Washington National Guard Col. Grethe Cammermeyer, a lesbian and the military's highest-ranking officer to be discharged because of sexual orientation. "[It is] my understanding that there had never been a homosexual blackmail [in which silence was] traded for state secrets," she says.

None that we know of... The KGB was notorious for "honey traps" and blackmail.

No, actually, people who pretend to be other people for a living ALSO pretend to be those other people in their domestic entanglements.

Pretended so long that there's nothing in there but pretend, if there ever was anything else. That's been my experience. I steer clear of even community theatre people for that reason, let alone actors of any note.

“The KGB was notorious for “honey traps” and blackmail.”

And we were certain that saving our civilization was more important than “celebrating our diversity”. That’s what made made those more interesting times.
