You just can't make stuff this stupid up. My favorite line was: "you have to think, somewhere along the line, Im the product of some horrific rape"

As long as Tonto is a cute little blond with big tata’s I’ll call her Keemosabi.

Ugh. Painful. At one point—years ago—I thought he was a good actor and worth watching. He’s devolved into typical Hollywood.

Native Americans did a lot of raping of other Native Americans. They were brutal to other tribes and nations.
So, in that sense, Depp is probably right.

He’s about the same age as my kids. If it was on TV, I don’t remember it.

I remember the old Bill Cosby routine...because every time the Lone Ranger told Tonto to go into town, Tonto would get the crap beat out of him. Until eventually one day
“Tonto you go into town..”
“You go to Hell, Kimosabe.”

Maybe because the show was called “The Lone Ranger” and not The Tonto Show.

Depp...is a dope.
Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels played the series as O'Henry envisioned the characters, as the script dictated, as as the directors ordered...it's as simple as that.
Jay Silverheels would be the one to bring up any racial problems, not Mr. Mascara, Johnny Depp.
I would imagine Silverheels didn't care one way or the other, as he was raking in the money. I saw him recently on an old Johnny Carson "Tonight Show" re-run, and he was spoofing himself as "Tonto".
I don't watch Depp, I think he's two bubbles off plumb and weird too.

Back in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s I did not know how to describe my suspicions when I saw The Lone Ranger and Tonto. Today, I can articulate my suspicion that Tonto was probably gay.(a berdache.)

A lot of American Indian tribes were warrior tribes, and there is no reason in the world to disparage them for it. As warriors, they also understand that a superior/subordinate role among warriors does not mean master/slave, in that warriors usually have equal tribal status, but some are better at it, so attract subordinates that trust and respect them. A “chief” rules by wisdom and charisma. If he slacks off even a bit, his warriors are free agents whenever they want to be.
As far as the warlike nature of some of these tribes, when the US entered WWII, adult Indian men waited outside recruiting stations all night on several reservations. One of the Iroquois tribes, which had declared a separate war against Germany in WWI, had not signed on to the armistice, so was still technically at war, and referred to WWII as “resumed hostilities.”

I remember talking to my Grandfather, Born 1886, about the earlies when our family went West in the 1840’s. It was you leave us alone, we will leave you alone, other than that target practice. more people died of disease on the trails West than by Indianians.
