We left South Florida in 2005 for West-by-God Virginia and never, never looked back.

I bought a beautiful house on ninety hilltop acres for what I sold my house on 1/5 acre, with cash left over.

The state income tax I pay equates to about forty percent of what I save in property taxes, auto and homeowners insurance.

And everyone at the grocery store speaks English! (Although they do spit a lot more).

In 1950, when I was 2 years old, my father decided to pull up stakes and move from West-by God-Virginia to Hollywood Florida. He was going to make sure that his son did not end up working in the coal mines like everybody else.

No plans, no job offers, just the faith that he could make it happen, and make a better life for his family.

I thank God everyday for my Dad’s faith and courage. He became a cop for the HPD, where he served with distinction for the next 35 years.

South Florida back in the day was a wonderful place to raise kids, and be a kid. Today, well I already stated my thoughts about south Florida. I guess I saw the best when I was growing up, and what it is today is a sad counterfeit of those days.
