In 1950, when I was 2 years old, my father decided to pull up stakes and move from West-by God-Virginia to Hollywood Florida. He was going to make sure that his son did not end up working in the coal mines like everybody else.
No plans, no job offers, just the faith that he could make it happen, and make a better life for his family.
I thank God everyday for my Dad’s faith and courage. He became a cop for the HPD, where he served with distinction for the next 35 years.
South Florida back in the day was a wonderful place to raise kids, and be a kid. Today, well I already stated my thoughts about south Florida. I guess I saw the best when I was growing up, and what it is today is a sad counterfeit of those days.
My problem is that I suffer from EXTREME Seasonal Affected Depression. I am OK everywhere during late spring to early autumn. However, I have to be at a latitude from about Orlando south during the shortest days of the year. Therefore in continental USA I could only live in southern Florida or South Texas.
