(Reuters) - Texas on Tuesday carried out its first execution using a sedative often used to euthanize animals.
Cary Kerr, 46, was put to death by lethal injection for the 2001 sexual assault and strangling of Pamela Horton.
The new drug, pentobarbital, replaced sodium thiopental in Texas' three-drug execution protocol.

Thanks PROCON.
You sound like one of those heartless right-wing-gers....:=)
Ummm, in Texas it’s ok to use deadly force against a purse snatcher. I don’t think I’d make it a capital crime though.
I wondered why they executed criminals with a drug that was difficult to administer and was unpredictable at times. Pentabarbital is a good drug for euthanasia; given slowly it is humane and the animal goes under smoothly. I always use ten percent more than the lethal dose because I don’t wish to be on the news for failing to euthanize an animal.
Ummmm all you want. If the perpetrator is willing to subordinate the value of his life to the fruits of his crime, I don't see a problem with the system obliging him.
If it was the same stuff they used to put my kitties to sleep, it was too good for him.
Why do you think this drug wasn't used on humans before now, perhaps because it is usually reserved only for euthanizing animals?
Just put my 13 year-old American Bulldog down. If sodium pentobarbital is good enough for Buddy, it’s sure as hell good enough for these guys. Works in about 15 to 20 seconds and is painless.

I have no idea. Veterinarians used to mix succinylcholine, potassium and pentabarbital as a euthanasia solution until someone questioned what part affected the animal first and then we began to use just pentabarbital. It worked didn’t it? My only concern that every once in a very great while, the pentabarbital will not kill the animal, no matter what dose I use. I chalk it up as that animal having a unique ability to metabolize or remove the drug rapidly. Its not supposed to happen but medicine is not precise at times due to all of the variables.

Down here in Texas, if someone comes on our property without permission we can kill him. And the best part is we don’t have to drag him in the house first before calling the cops.

Please call me one too.
You, Sir/Madam are a
You probably spend all your time on those hateful conservative websites, believe in God, believe in the U.S. Constitution as written and drive an SUV, but besides all of that, I like you...:=)

Dragging someone is so....much work. So glad I live in a place where I can defend myself, family, property, and not worry about some worthless piece of crap’s family taking me to court for doing its job. The Castle law is great.
Thank you. I always knew I was a heartless right winger but I needed someone else to affirm it for me.
