Bowie knife (pronounced /ˈboʊ.iː/ BOW-ee[1][2][3] or /ˈbuː.iː/ BOO-ee[3]) is a style of fixed-blade knife first popularized by Colonel James "Jim" Bowie in the early 19th Century. It was first made by James Black, although its common use refers to any large sheath knife with a clip point.
The "Jim Bowie knife" first became famous due to Bowie's use of a large knife at a duel known as the Sandbar Fight. The knife pattern is still popular with collectors; in addition to various knife manufacturing companies there are hundreds of custom knife makers producing Bowies and variations.

My Trail Master is great, but get more use out of the SRK.
C'mon, people.
I wasn’t really criticizing JPB, I’m sure he has his reasons for buying what he did, I was just pointing out that for a mere $6 you can get a MUCH better knife! The one he bought is probably bigger and closer to the original than the Buck, but there is no doubt it is an inferior knife.
Look at it this way - if you climb out of a FWD wearing one of those giant Chinese knives at our hunting base camp in the Bad Lands of Western North Dakota, people will openly laugh at you.
Rather, the Buck knife you pictured is the tool for skinning Mule Deer, cleaning pheasants and myriad other outdoor tasks.
That particular Buck model is FReeper approved.

I do not know about "choice" knives from Pakistan but I have a Pakistan knife made from a file, which is an excellent steel.
I also have a knife a fellow in Texas made from a railroad spike, also a very good steel.

Legend has it that the blacksmith, James Black, knew about the then secret method of forging “Damascus steel”, and that the original ‘Bowie Knife’ was made using that technique.

There are many knife makers that produce quality heirloom knives. Butch Waller and Bob Dozier are two Arkansans that I have had make me knives. Both are superb. Go to the website Buffalo Waller knife works and click on his links and one can find hundreds of custom knife makers. I have a Murphy fighting knife and a Randall fighting knife too, they are both great knives.
