Anyone owning a good knife, worth his salt, needs to know how to sharpen it.

Ya might want to check out the ones at ColdSteel.
My Trail Master is great, but get more use out of the SRK.

Picked up one of these the other day.

I still have my 'original' from '69 and a Mk I from '74. Both non-serrated. Good info site is here:
Vintage Gerber Knives. Them wood handle ones are pretty. Never saw one though.
Somewhere I have an EK thats original. Plus a few AF Pilots knives and sheaths w/stone that I hear are now collectibles. Heck, I never thought they would be worth anything.
I also have an orange Camillus shroud cutter knife. Funny thing is, they were Gov't contract mess-ups. The shroud cutter blade was supposed to be spring-loaded, not the drop point blade. I hear this is a collector item now also. Funny that.

Only about $6 more at WalMart than the Chinese Winchester. Made in the U.S.A. and warrantied forever. Hard to go wrong.

I wasn’t really criticizing JPB, I’m sure he has his reasons for buying what he did, I was just pointing out that for a mere $6 you can get a MUCH better knife! The one he bought is probably bigger and closer to the original than the Buck, but there is no doubt it is an inferior knife.

The one he bought is probably bigger and closer to the original than the Buck...Look at it this way - if you climb out of a FWD wearing one of those giant Chinese knives at our hunting base camp in the Bad Lands of Western North Dakota, people will openly laugh at you.
Rather, the Buck knife you pictured is the tool for skinning Mule Deer, cleaning pheasants and myriad other outdoor tasks.

Pakistan makes some choice knives I do not know about "choice" knives from Pakistan but I have a Pakistan knife made from a file, which is an excellent steel.
I also have a knife a fellow in Texas made from a railroad spike, also a very good steel.

There are many knife makers that produce quality heirloom knives. Butch Waller and Bob Dozier are two Arkansans that I have had make me knives. Both are superb. Go to the website Buffalo Waller knife works and click on his links and one can find hundreds of custom knife makers. I have a Murphy fighting knife and a Randall fighting knife too, they are both great knives.

I have a pocket knife that is 1/2" long, it was a surprise in Cracker Jack's popcorn, and made in germany.
