In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

ob·lo·quy [ob-luh-kwee] –noun, plural -quies.
1. censure, blame, or abusive language aimed at a person or thing, especially by numerous persons or by the general public.
2. discredit, disgrace, or bad repute resulting from public blame, abuse, or denunciation.

Example sentence:
"Not all writers or artists seek or ably perform a public role, and those who do risk obloquy and derision, even in free societies."
– Salman Rushdie, New York Times, April 20, 2011

Etymology:
1425–75; late Middle English. Obloquy means "harsh or critical statements about someone," and also "the condition of someone who lost the respect of other people" – both of which apply here. It's a word far more often written than spoken, with a formal tone that suits a serious issue. It comes from the Latin obloquy, "to speak against," from ob- "against" + loqui to "speak" (making it a relative of words like soliloquy and elocution).

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

I guess it’s a good thing when your prison is too boring for reality TV.

Amazing indeed.

Nice concise way to sum up that whole bc situation.

Yeah, it’s like a secret terrorist with a long beard and a wife in a burkha.

People who know nothing about anything are picking apart a computer-scanned document finding “clues” that are just random artifacts of the scanning process.

I guess tales of DUIs and petty larceny just don’t cut the muster.

This man wasn’t vetted.

I blame a lack of intellectual curiosity among the press.

all true, but to believe half the stuff that some freepers espouse, you truly have to believe that he was virtually conceived for the express purpose of being elected president and his entire life dedicated to that prospect. Given the weird oddness of his childhood upbringing and circumstances that seems exceedingly farfetched.

If they were intellectually curious, they wouldn’t have majored in journalism.

Yeah, because the questionable nature of his birth certificate couldn't have possbily related to the very common practice at that time of getting off-island births documented as if they were on-island births for the purpose of eligility for welfare benefits reserved only for citizens and/or citizens' children. The only possible reason for falsely documenting Obama as having been born on the island (if he was actually born somewhere else) is the prescient thought that someday he might be able to run for President.

Or you could blame the lack of intellect.

I do, too! Like I said, I saw an episode on a plane once (they were trying to find this perfect burger joint) and thought it pretty funny. But it seemed like I needed to find the beginning to follow the relationships.

Then I just dived in over the past month. Syndication helps to catch up quickly, though you have to follow 2 or 3 chronological storylines. (Since they’ll show 2 episodes in a row, but from different seasons.)

Just saw the one yesterday where Ted gets hammered and wakes up with a girl and a pineapple, neither of which he can remember.

Any opinion on this?

********************
Thus far, the conservative response has held that it is ridiculous for the federal government to tell a business where to expand its operations. It is ridiculous. It’s also unprecedented. But thanks to the fact that the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) is poorly written, as well as the fact that the board and the courts haven’t made the law much clearer via interpretation, this move actually has a chance of holding up.

What can I say— this administration is virulently pro-union. It’s their lifeblood and they’ll do whatever they can to protect and promote it.
