Is Fox News dictating anti-birther views? Is that why Beck is leaving?
(vanity)

Posted on 04/17/2011 3:00:45 AM PDT by Cringing Negativism Network

Was just browsing the following FR thread:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/2706066/posts?page=1

In which Beck is referenced making what appears to be birther-consistent statements. Skeptical at very least.

Flat-out birther even, perhaps.

I don't speak for Glenn, and I don't even claim to be a close friend, but I've dealt with him quite a bit; with his staff, a ton; and was with him just about four weeks ago, specifically discussing elements related to his leaving FOX, and the birther thing has never come up once. As best I can tell, Beck is seeking new opportunities to expand his influence and is looking for new, broader distribution networks.

Nor has he ever said this---but Rush has, many times---that TV can be a kind of grind that radio never is, and severely limits your ability to get out "among the people" as Beck likes to do and also forces a schedule on you that Rush didn't like and perhaps Beck is finding it too confining as well. Again, just my impression.

Thanks for sharing your first hand experience with Beck and his staff. That answers a lot of my questions.

I noticed a few times watching Red Eye that whenever the birther subject comes up the all laugh it off as if the birthers are a bunch of nutjobs.

It kind of pisses me off.

There is little to no risk of them having a successful EMP attack.

Because?

Because an EMP attack requires a fairly powerful nuclear explosion in the upper atmosphere. They might manage a small localized event but certainly nothing impacting a significant portion of the nation. Even that would be unlikely. Russia or China could handle it but nobody else. India might be able to in a few years.

He could also still do his TV show from the "safer, more sensible place," if safety is the issue.

Given the format of the Glen Beck program - with a number of live guests, and on occasion a live studio audience, it would be exceedingly difficult to continue the show as currently structured from a remote location. Also, a radio show could easily be transitioned to a shortwave format should an EMP attack knock out most of our communications infrastructure. The more I think about this, the more I think that an Iranian EMP attack is the most significant threat to our country. It gives them the "bang for the buck" that no other attack would allow...and of course it could be carried out by a terrorist proxy making retaliation against Iran by our current castrated government extremely unlikely. I suspect the EMP attack against America comes first, then there's a concentrated attack by Muslim nations against Israel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPzIWsdnj0w

The latest varient of the Shahab 3 has a range of 1,200 miles. It has already been test fired from ships several times. Iran *already* has the delivery system for an EMP attack. The only question is the warhead.

1200 miles for a surface attack. They would have to be in north South America on or a ship in order to do that. They would also have difficulty in reaching the upper atmosphere where the warhead would be more effective. EMP is line of sight from the explosion, so the higher the altitude the further the EMP impact is.

Thats assuming our CIA totally ignored them putting a rocket on a ship and sailing over to Florida.

A nuclear, chemical or bio attack would be far easier. Especially since their goal is to kill us.

You’re right - their goal is to kill us. But their goal is also to depose us as a world power. An EMP attack would kill far more Americans as our infrastructure failed than any single biological - or even nuclear attack - would. It would also knock the entire country back to the 19th century.

An EMP attack would have minimal impact on our military. Logistically there are easier ways to accomplish what they want. IMO

We can probably agree that NYC is not a good place to be regardless of the type of attack.

My understanding is that almost all military technology acquired in the past 20 years has been acquired under a waiver for EMP hardening to keep costs down. While we would still have military capability, it would be what we had decades ago.

As I understand it from my contracts with the DoD its not for all purchases. Probably some of it has been acquired that way. They rate systems on their criticality. The more critical systems are better protected.

Less critical systems are given the waiver so costs can be reduced. The logistics of an EMP attack are not something just anyone can pull off. I still think there are much more likely scenarios. I could be wrong but ya only got so much money and other resources. You have to play the odds.

Not being a conspiracy nut here but I distinctly remember a missile launch, in the ocean, off the coast of California a few months back.
All sources claimed it was a airliner with a com trail..
remember that one?

So you’re saying these weren’t really black helicopters using the same airframe as typical govt helicopters and they weren’t really doing some kind of exercise over Miami.

Is that what you’re saying.

I mean after all the DOD has previously made public statements of exercises they do in civilian areas. Things like holding exercises to find ‘weapons dealers’ using the homes of volunteers in Iowa.

But then they would never do something like that and I am just paranoid.
