The 20 Greatest Guitar Solos Of All Time (or "What I Did With My Wednesday Night")

Our Greatest Guitar Solo Of All Time poll certainly caused some fierce debate amongst guitarists… and that was just in our office. Choosing the 'greatest' guitar solo is obviously subjective in the extreme. But Guitarist had other motivations too – we were eager to see how many modern solos have impressed you all in the thirteen years since our last solo poll. The results were suprising. After asking for your nominations, we took the 20 most popular and asked for you vote on which your though was most deserving here and at MusicRadar. You voted in your thousands, fanbases were motivated and old favourites suffered.

Ok, husband is lead guitar player in two bands (sidelines - not his day job :) ) He says Jimmie Page in Stairway to Heaven and Eagles Hotel California.

I personally have no idea. More into vocals.

Obviously Wes Montgomery was never “a guitarist”. Nor Howard Roberts.

I could easily name lots more Not-Guitarist-Guitarists. ... Hmm

That song is timeless isn’t it? In the middle..where it’s only instrumental/guitar ..... building to a crescendo....oh man. Now I have to find that on youtube. :)

(blow my dinky speakers out)

#1 - Dazed and Confused Led Zeppelin

Yes, excellent! But don't forget John Paul Jones on bass. He did some cool riffs also.

Sorry folks, I'm kinda partial to bass players. :-)

Hard to argue against including the Nuge. I think Carlos Santana is a glaring omission as well

Gary Moore made the list, but his version of Shapes of Things should be top 5.

Nothing from Angus Young or Duane Allman? Where's Whipping Post?

Boston’s “Hitch a Ride” has a great dual guitar solo. Gilmore’s best work was on “Mother” IMHO

Ditto on Alvin Lee and I’m Goin Home! It’s not even on the list. What’s up with that?

You got that right. My wife hates that I am obsessed with Floyd. I never liked them till I was 36. But I am a convert now. Saw Roger Waters tour in December. Amazing what he did, the wall was awesome and the Music good as ever. Well would have been better if Gilmore was there.. But Roger messed that up..

And the best Eagles solo wasn't Hotel California, it was "One of These Nights."

No it wasn't, I was in "A Good Day in Hell"...great slide.
