Need help with Internet Explorer 9
Self | An American In Turkiye

Need some Freeper help from any computer folks please.

Last night I received a prompt to upgrade to Internet Explorer 9. I did, and this new version SUCKS! The swapped the favorites and home buttons to the right side of the screen, and my toolbars are now gone.

I want to go back to my old one, but can't remember if I had 8 or 7. I run Vista. Is it just a matter of downloading and installing IE 8 or 9? Any help would be appreciated, and no, I am not a computer geek, and I admit, I am a computer idiot, so please keep the jokes to a minimum. But I can take them nonetheless!

Did a two year tour with LANDSOUTHEAST in Izmir. Shipped lots of junk back to the States. Every weekend was an exploration.

I loved Izmir. I traveled all over Turkey. So much history there! Ever make it to Cappadocia? Beautiful. I drank from St. Pauls well in Taursus, and ended up getting pretty sick from it.

Only trip East was to the AB where u stayed..a hop to Greece.

We trekked up to Goats castle..drove to Bodrum several times..visited all the sites in Western Turkey. Camped on the beaches in the Summer.

My gut feelings told me there is a treasure buried..near Sardis.

Rented a house on a hill overlooking the Bay of Izmir..had two year lease..the initial rental was $212...the last year the price dropped to $64..the lira crashed.

Turkey was a great assignment.

Also, the best cuisine I’ve ever had. Adana Kababs, borek, goat cheese on bread, chicken tava, menemin, etc. Sure wish I could go back!

It isn’t widely known, but with IE9 open, press the F12 key. It will open a developer’s panel along the bottom of the screen. I’m not home and am replying on a cell phone, so can’t refresh my memory. But in one if the tabs you will see a choice of which rules to run the browser. You can choose IE8. Also, IE8 should still be on your computer. A fresh copy should have been installed with IE9. Click the Start button, then look in All Programs. There should be links to both versions.

You don't need to re-install IE 8.

Control Panel->Programs->Programs and Features->Installed Updates.

Scroll down to "Windows Internet Explorer 9" and hit Uninstall. You'll be reverted back to IE8 if that's what you had installed before.

I am wary of any of Microsoft’s upgrades.
When they offered IE7, I upgraded and could no longer use my HP scanner. Later when they offered IE8, I hadn[t learned my lesson and the drivers for my printer stopped working.
I hate the upgrades.

You are talking about a system restore. Anyone can do it, although you need to know where to find the control to start it on your computer. Go to Google, then enter something like “system restore windows vista” and you should get plenty of references.

Since we’re on this IE9 subject, is there anyway to get my Favorites to all open in the same panel like they did on IE8 instead of opening a new panel for each group selection?

IE9 is quite a bit faster tha IE8 I have been playing with it since before the official release and don’t mind it.

To get things back to the way you like you can drag around the tool bars.

Also if you right-click on the blank space around the address field you can enable the menus etc.

Kind of hard to describe without showing you, but try it and see if you can get it the way you like.

the one thing I do miss is the little history pull down menu which gave you previous sites that you had been too, so you could just step backwards through them. But i can do the same just using the history shortcut key: Ctrl+H

If you like to search from the “Search Box”. then you are screwed with IE9. With Windows 7 64 bit, there is no way to get your search box.

stay with 9,
about the toolbars, right click an empty space at the botom of the toolbar area, uncheck lock the toolbars, check any toolbar you want to use. move them around to where you want them then recheck lock the toolbars.

I put the Bing toolbar on IE9. It gives me a search box and lots of neat shortcuts (facebook, weather, mail, maps, news, stocks, etc.).

There is no “Search Box” present in the “top right” of the Address Bar. According to MS, it was designed that way, and does not work with 64 bit Windows 7 & Google as the search provider.
