We control 1/3 of the process. That means we should have started with $467 bn in cuts to the FY deficit budget RIGHT NOW and negotiated from there.
How absolutely ridiculous. It wouldn’t get thru the Senate ever, and Obama would veto it if by some miracle it did, which it wouldn’t. You live in LaLaLand. Some people are just totally ignorant of how our political system actually works. Your way would work only if you wanted to disregard the existence of the other 2/3rd’s of gov’t, or if you wanted a dictatorship to force through your will. Sounds very much like some extreme commie/socialist/fascist dictators, such as Pelosi. I don’t want any Pelosi’s in my party, thank you.
No it's exactly what should have been done and maybe Ole John would have walked out of the deal with $100B in cuts who knows. When I go to a car lot. I see a vehicle I want and need. I ask the sticker price if it's not posted. Let's say it's a used van for $7500.00 sticker price. I tell the salesman $4500. He says no we have $7000.00 in it. I leave the lot.
I come back the next day and say $4900. He says no. I say OK. I got a few others I'm considering and are closer to what I want in price and less miles on them. I come in later in the week in a different vehicle I'm trying out on a test drive and say $5200. The salesman says hang on a couple of minutes. He comes back and says I can't $57.50 is our lowest number.
I go home and wait an hour or two. I call him and say I have a used vehicle {barely running & I need rid of anyway} and I have $5400 cash. He says bring it in. My starting price was $3000 below his on a used vehicle. His final price was $2100 below his starting price. I went on the lot with a $5500 budget to spend but I was not stupid enough to ever tell him how much I ever had or he would have tried to sell me an old Renault instead.
I didn't go on the lot thinking I was going to get the van for $4500 either. But had I started out at $5500 I would have been telling the salesman that guy likely has $6200 or more and will pay it.
So yes starting out far beyond what the goal is set at is just a smart thing to do. What the poster said makes perfect sense. He said "That means we should have started with $467 bn in cuts to the FY deficit budget RIGHT NOW and negotiated from there." and I agree we should have started there and kept going back to it for considerable time. That is not being ridiclous that is how bargaining works. Some of the GOP Jerk RINO's in the senate should have had the guts to join in too. Too many GOP in the senate are Closet Democrats including the two from state.
The lack of will to drive a hard bargain resulted in far less than even gaining 50% of the $100B cuts platform the GOP ran on. As for making demands and getting even a third of them met the GOP Congress is a pathetic failure and has been since late 1995 under the Eye Of Newt.
Yes, and one of them is flaglady47. You want to know how the political process works? You saw it tonight: The Democrats propose spending $1400 bn we don't have (in addition to another $2600 bn we shouldn't ne spending in the first place), and the Republicans kick and scream for a few hours on TV, and then give them -- LITERALLY 99% of everything they want.
It is YOU who live in Lalaland. It is YOU who are living in a fantasy world. YOU have no idea how dire our economic situation has become, and clearly on the basis of what happened last night, it is going to be even more dire next year, and the next.
And people like YOU are the problem. You think I am unreasonable for expecting $467 bn in cuts, yet you think nothing whatsoever of allowing 0 to borrow and spend three times that amount! What exactly was reasonable about our agreeing to that? What exactly was reasonable about allowing 0 to increase the size of the Federal government by 25% in 2009? We functioned perfectly well in 2008, spending $800 bn less -- in fact government was ALREADY TOO LARGE -- the year Bush left office.
When all the money you've ever saved in your life is wiped out by the inflationary tidal wave that's on it's way now, and when your children and grandchildren are crippled by debt, slaving all their lives for nothing, when The United States of America becomes a vassal state of totalitarian China, remember my words: YOU are a Quisling, and YOU are the problem.
