Tampa Bay Rays slugger Manny Ramirez has notified Major League Baseball that he is retiring after being notified of an issue under MLB’s drug policy.

The commissioner’s office issued a statement Friday that said Ramirez decided to retire rather than go through MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

I’ve been to only one Rays’ game. I don’t care for baseball indoors. The Trop is terrible, IMHO!

Whatever.

The fact is, growing up and growing old in Boston, one began to despair of EVER seeing the Sox win the World Series. Seeing that happen made an Old Man (me) VERY forgiving.

After that, anything he did, pretty much, was just “Manny being Manny.”

Tampa seems to be the dumping ground for ex-Sox players, like Wade Boggs.

Plus, it's a pretty fur trip from Lakeland to St. Pete. A few beers, and what-not, and you're over the legal limit and still have to drive over 50 miles to get home.

OK, I know! No ones says you HAVE TO drink beer! But, what's a baseball or football game without a beer or two?

We go to a few games, its a long drive for us since we live on the opposite side of the bay. Then there is the wonderful south st pete area you have to contend with.

Several years ago, my daughter and I attended the only game I’ve ever been to at Fenway. When the Red Sox took the field, Manny ran out to left field waving an American flag. The crowd went nuts and he gave gave the flag to a fan and warmed up. It turns out he had just earned his U.S. citizenship that day. It was pretty cool.

That said, other than that one instance, I think he was pretty much of an immature PED abusing turd who had one talent worth $200 million.

“The Trop is terrible”

Better than 95 deg. / 100% humidity outdoor ball in August.

It should have been built across from the dog track so folks from Tampa and Clearwater could easily get there
Is it worth it?
Good time.?

Its not a great ball park with the roof and all. If you like baseball its a good time. I prefer hockey as its a much faster game.

Getting to and from the park is a pain. The games themselves are good.

Maybe he meant the incident with the Boston traveling secretary, who I believe was also an older guy, though not as old as Zimmer.

“I don’t care for baseball indoors. The Trop is terrible, IMHO!”

Not as terrible as sitting out in the pouring rain and Florida sun in August.

I absolutely agree with both of you! So, if I'm going to endure heat and humidity, I choose to do it at Anna Maria Island and heading to the Sand Bar when parched!

A retractable roof might be the answer and building the stadium in Tampa, rather than St. Pete would be a boon!

About once every 5 or 6 weeks the wife and I have to go over to Pinellas Park to check up on her folks.
Think I’ll take in a game next time I’m over there.
