Research suggests spiritual experiences originate deep within primitive areas of the human brain -- areas shared by other animals with brain structures like our own. Many scientists, therefore, believe its possible that dogs have moments that we may interpret as being spiritual.
One such scientist is Kevin Nelson, a professor of neurology at the University of Kentucky. He thinks it is possible that dogs may go through near-death experiences, have mystical experiences, and feel the bliss that some people have associated with religious happenings. Says Nelson, author of the book The Spiritual Doorway in the Brain: In general, what serves to distinguish humans from animals is less the type of experience and the brain from which it springs, and more the spiritual interpretation the experience is given by humans.

I’ve no experience hunting ‘coon or hunting w/ dogs, other than game birds. From a google search, it may be so.
Since “all dogs go to heaven”, they have to have a spiritual life...don’t think they’d get through the pearly gates without swiping their halos first.
Hey CC, on a serious note I would say yes they can. I was asked to post the story of Digger, my JR’s death about three weeks ago but I can’t find the courage to do that just yet. Lets suffice to say he may have saved two boy’s lives and his adopted sibling from two pitbulls. Since the incident the adopted sibling a Healer named Lucy. Lucy has had a remarkable change of character. She no longer wants to interact with other dogs or small children but loves adults. She was always the standoffish one and would retreat from a confrontation from another dog. Two days ago in the middle of the day she sounded an alert in the back yard. When I went outside I noticed a stray dog in the yard.I yelled at the dog to scare it away which usualy works, but not this time. The dog, with head lowered, advanced one step towards me and Lucy never hesitated a moment. The dog was surprised that Lucy, a smaller dog would advance and he started to run away .Lucy caught up with him about 50 feet or so and nailed him in the hamstring and knocked him down. Lucy stood poised and ready while the stray got up and hauled ass away from that crazy hound. So yes, if an animal can have a relationship like that with a human then I would call that spiritual.
My Lab is in a state of bliss most of the time.
I’ve never seen a happier dog.
My Lab mix however is a curmudgeon.
When you're ready - and there's no hurry - could you ping me. Would love to hear the story of Digger...
AWwwwwwwwwwwww...determined looking! ;D
Lucy the Healer is just barely a year old. We adopted her when we picked her up on the side of the road at about 6 or 7 weeks.Other than us humans, Digger was the only parent/sibling she ever knew and Lucy was the first dog Digger ever realy tolerated and nurtured.Anyway, she has definately taken over big brothers job. When at home she rarely leaves my side in the evening but during the day she patroles the property.
Nobody, and I do mean nobody gets near POP! :D
