Would You Buy Your Daughter a Doll That She Breastfeeds?

Is this breastfeeding doll, aimed at young girls, the stuff of a pedophile’s fantasy? Or is it a harmless toy that teaches young girls the importance of nurturing and parenting–skills that she will need in the future? The doll, which hits U.S. stores this spring, is called the Breast Milk Baby, and has already been sold in the European market for a couple of years:

A doll that imitates a breast-feeding infant teaches nurturing, the toy’s maker says, but some parents are outraged.

Berjuan Toys’ “Breast Milk Baby” comes with a special halter top, ABC News reports.

The top has two flowers where nipples would be. When the doll’s mouth is brought to a sensor in the flower, it makes suckling motions and sounds.

Dennis Lewis, Berjuan’s U.S. spokesman, said, “There have been people who have called us pedophiles, they’ve called us perverts, they‘ve said we’re endangering little girls.

“Breast-feeding was a normal part of life before a few greedy pharmaceutical companies tried to make it rich selling artificial milk,” he said. “A girl who plays with a breast-feeding baby now will think this is the normal way to feed a baby.”

The doll makes sucking noises and even cries. One young girl, in the report below, said her favorite part of the doll was “breastfeeding.” A company spokesperson said the doll teaches young girls the nurturing skills they will need in the future. But one viewer, who took issue with doll, observed, “Now that underage sex and pregnancies are reaching shocking proportions, let’s have a doll which encourages children to … get pregnant!” Another asked: “would you create a toy that simulated…labor pains?”

I hope all the ignorant comments are from non-parents..
Do people actually think the fact that babies naturally want to breastfeed is inappropriate for children to learn about?

...that said, I wouldn't buy one of these for either of my toddler daughters, they are free to 'breastfeed' there regular dolls and, dear i say,**gasp** stuffed animals ;)

Totally agree. I wouldn’t buy it, but there’s nothing creepy about it. My grandaughter, age 2 occasionally breast feeds her Elmo doll (and encourages my wife to do so also).

Any normal child witnessing how to take care of a child would figure this out.

"Now, what will they make for little boys?"

Oh, little boys can use it too.

:-O

No, I am comparing sexualizing children

For adults I support breast feeding wholeheartedly

So when my 2-yr old daughter lifts up her shirt and puts her baby doll against her chest to mime what mommy does with our youngest, she’s sexualizing herself? You think I should stop her?

This is getting ridiculous. A child is perfectly able to use his or her imagination when playing, without requiring some silly garment or accessory to move the play along.

When we were little girls, we held the baby dolls to our chests from time to time, pretending to feed them. We didn’t require a special suck-on shirt.

We used to line up on the couch and pretend we were mommies driving the carpool. We did not need for our Mom to throw us the keys to the station wagon in order to play carpool.

I think the worst aspect of this toy is the total waste of money!
