(vanity) OK, I deleted my Facebook account....anyone else do this?

Posted on 03/27/2011 5:55:57 PM PDT by Red in Blue PA

A friend of mine said I "needed" a Facebook account over a year ago, so I tried it out. So I tried it out and found that most people talked about their inane daily activities. Who cares if they are waiting in an airport or doing laundry? Does anyone else hate being connected all of the time? Not to mention the fact that you will be contacted by people you do not want to hear from anymore. And you must respond. Reject them, or just ignore them. Either way, it is awkward.

If you want to talk about something, start a blog.

If you want to contact me, email me.

I still do not understand the fascination with Facebook (or Twitter)...... and I am someone who grew up in a computer.

Was curious how many other people tried it but dumped it. W

Can you ever really delete a FB Account?

In Russia, Facebook account deletes YOU.

heh...have to admit I got one mainly so I could see what the heck everyone was talking about on FB, so I guess that’s a form of voyeurism. I should have put in fake info - I hate the concept of hanging your personal info out there even if only where you went to HS or college. It’s creepy. But it does allow me to read what Sarah Palin and a few other public people post, and that’s about all I use it for.

No facebook.

No cell phone.

I was gonna call my dad on his b-day last week but he was busy having a stent put in. But he called today.

Less and less tv.

Too much time on FR. But there are people here I am very glad I met.

Jim Robinson has a facebook page along with sons John and Chris. David Limbaugh is also one of his friends.

I have an account because some of the posts here lead back to FB.

But the first thing I did when I saw people trying to “friend” me, was to disable all notices and strip my profile down to name only.

I rarely, if ever, go to my homepage for anything.

It was the farmville posts that finally did it for me.

If I get more than one of those stupid Farmville spams from someone, they get both banished and shunned.

(Nothin' like a good shunning!)

I guess it all depends on the depth of your “friends” and what they have to say...nobody holds a pistol to your head to sign in so I only check it when it is convenient. The “friends” and family that I have allowed, post very interesting thoughts, activities, and photos and I try to make my few posts just as useful. I am now often in touch with extended family members that I value and I have found challenging blogs, news sites, and happenings I would have never known about. If you have intellectual curiosity it is a wonderful tool and it is secure if you want it to be.

I've always thought: "You won't win votes singing to the choir"

At least not in a general election.

What a waste of talent in in FR if the news we get here is not posted on the Facebook pages of people like Obama.

I mean, everybody here is going to republican. That's a given. I use what I learn in Freerepublic to battle the liberals and independents in other forums. Facebook and Twitter are the most powerful forums to change out government. If you don't believe. Ask Egypt.

If all republicans were to delete their accounts, who's going to be behind me when I post a URL in the comment section of Barack Obama's Facebook page the rebuttals his original post? The man has 18,913,150 followers that will view your post. You could take more votes from Obama in one post than you could a whole year of posting in Freerepublic (because we're not going to vote for him anyways).

When Barack Obama posted his Libya issue on Facebook. Millions read it and 1,450 commented. Me, I posted a few links I got from here in the comments in his page. One of them "Al Qaeda Commander Admits Libyan Rebels Are Linked To Al Qaeda" and I posted other damaging posts. The man has to be challenged. And what better way to challenge him with his own supporters and undecideds reading his posts the comments.

I also follow our side, Sarah Palin...etc. I think social networking is an excellent tool for wining votes. Again, just look at Egypt. We can participate or we can just let it fall. Sorry, those guys already have cable tv networks, the newspapers and FM radio... I'm not about to let them have the internet as well.

Do whatever you please but I'm not deleting mine.

I hear ya! When something such as this has happened to me, I immediately contact the person and tell them to immediately delete my picture and or name or both. It is my picture and my name and unless my permission is given they have no right to publish either. Period.

I used to produce/direct media products (film, video, multimedia, electronic) and we always had to get a signed permission to publicly display a person's image and name. There is no reason on advent of the web that ANY of these legalities should change. People need to be made aware it is not only inappropriate, it is in many cases legally pursuable.Anyone who does not respect that privacy should be in for a rude awakening.

Just to be honest.
