I put liberalism down to two things: luxuriant culture and a romanticism that breeds Utopian ideals, self centeredness and a freedom from harshness, with its attendant child-like, emotional view of the world. What Marxism offers is the liberation from “the man” (Capitalism) and protection from the mother (nanny state): a love of the mother, a return to matriarchy, almost (dare I say it) an Oedipal relationship. The child has to kill Capitalism (the father) to have a smothering, cradle-to-the-grave relation with the mother (nanny state). Maturity and responsibility goes out the window, in fact, anything harsh goes out the window. It’s a paradise. Nobody is personally responsible for anything — no sin to battle with — because the state takes care of everything and everybody is just a member of their “class.” No individuality, no free will to battle sin, only undying, unflinching alliance to the mother state.
Hippies and their Me generation attitude reflects that emotion child-like state of mind (with children it is all about them). Parents and the government pick up after them (think Woodstock and the mess they left or the mess they leave at the mall in Washington). During the 60s times were great financially and people could afford these luxuriant and romantic views.
Great illustration of liberalism.
The hidden problem is....who are going to be the slaves in this society to make it so “others” can live in paradise—free of strife and work or biological connections. Life is hard work.....those that don’t realize this are living off of someone else’s hard labor.
Liberalism is all about no middle class....there are just masters and slaves.
