The CBS Evening News anchor is very likely to leave in June and Scott Pelley is a top contender to replace her but CBS is looking both within and outside the network, Howard Kurtz reports.
The search is on for Katie Courics successor.
The new CBS News chairman, Jeff Fager, is looking at candidates both within and outside the network, insiders say.
One strong contender if Couric vacates the anchor chair in early June, as now seems almost certain, is veteran newsman Scott Pelley. The 60 Minutes correspondent has long been a favorite of Fager, who doubles as the shows executive producer. But with Fager taking a methodical approach to his first major decision, Pelley is not a lock. A few short weeks ago, the expectation in the Couric campafter discussions with top CBS managementwas that she would sign a new deal to stay in the anchors job through the 2012 elections as she figured out the next phase of her career. But the thinking on both sides has now changed as Couric has aggressively tested the watersand found substantial interest in her services.

Perky doesn’t sell and is a lot cheaper than 15M.
It’s about time they fired that worthless pig.
But she’s been such a terrific draw!
Good opportunity for CBS to get back some decent viewership. I might watch, if there is an improvement. For example, I’d be sure to watch if they switch to a pile of rocks.
I hear Keith Olbermann will be available.
And don’t think CBS wouldn’t consider him.
I tuned for about 10-minutes on her first night and I haven’t been back since...
I did exactly the same......
LOL!
Hard to know who is more annoying - Katie Couric or Diane Sawyer. Both of them have tried to force their “Oprah” style onto the evening news and have lost tons of viewers in the process.
When Elizabeth Taylor died, ABC News spent the first NINE minutes blathering on about what a role model she was for women - first million dollar salary, not afriad to get divorced, strong champion of social issues, etc! It was nauseating - by the time they finally got to the rest of the day’s news, they spent a whopping five minutes total on the war in Libya and the situation in Japan.....
Scott Pelley would be a major step up from Perky Katie because, while he might have a liberal bias, he doesn’t also have a feminist bias like too many of the LSM women - “I am too as tough as all the guys-I am - I am - I am! And if you don’t say so, I’m gonna cry.... and then pull out the sexist label when you call me on it!”
BTW, what ever happened with Lara Logan? That story sure got dropped quickly, didn’t it?
LOL!
According to Bernard Goldberg, Couric has lost 3-million viewers since she took over the anchor’s chair...
Maybe she can do a sitcom about a wacky muzzie “single mom” in Detroit with three sons who all want to be suicide bombers. Kind of an “Allah In The Family” type show.
Love the show title....
good ........................................ bye (I have to see that movie again)
