“I see the two crimes as completely different. An adult man who seduces a female student (or a male student) is far more likely to be successful only because of the difference in power. An adult woman who seduces a student is far more likely to succeed because it’s what the student would want regardless of whether it’s his teacher or a total stranger. Both should lose their jobs and go to jail, but the man’s crime is usually worse in fact, and he should go to jail for far longer.”
I have to respectfully disagree with that blanket statement.
If it was a diminutive adult man and an amazonian female student, would the man’s crime not be as worse?
Big Media almost never discusses the M-M and F-F teacher-student relationships, but we have to figure they happen. How do they figure into your power model of criminal severity?
My blanket statement was meant to be a general summary that is often correct, not a yardstick to be blindly applied to all instances. The small man, amazonian female student situation strikes me as likely to be different in the dynamics, but it's also rare. As for the M-M, F-F situations, our beloved media have decided that they are not news, so we don't know a lot about them.
