You should be proud. He’s a man among men!
Others will say, “I would have joined the military but I had a bad knee or {fill in the blank.}” The truth is, they didn’t have the testicular fortitude to serve. Most never even spoke to a recruiter. It’s their excuse for their lack of courage.
God speed your son!

I served in 2 different branches of the military but I don’t denigrate those who only served in one.
Your belief does not make it truth. Not everyone who might want to serve can meet the physical requirements of the all volunteer forces. I know three without even thinking on it: two with irregular heart beats (one asthmatic besides), one with scoliosis. There are many able bodied who don't serve to be sure but there are also those whose spirit is willing but not blessed with bodies to match.
I went and spoke with recruiters for the Airforce and the Marines and decided that it wasn’t because I couldn’t hack it, but I didn’t have the gonads to hack it.
My brother, on the other hand, could hack it and served our Country as a Corpsman in Afghanistan and is now in the Highway Patrol.
To the OP, your son has already served his country better than I by joining. I will pray for his safety and future. God bless.
