There is a fascinating series on TV about hoarders, I believe it’s called “Buried Alive”. It’s a serious mental disease - I had always assumed it was a pathological issue of laziness, to lazy to take the garbage out. But, that show has shown me how wrong I was. It’s fascinating. These people develop an emotional attachment to EVERYTHING. Throwing coffee grounds out, or a pizza box out is emotionally comparable to your wife throwing away her wedding album.
I think there are 2 different versions of the show going, one each on TLC and A & E. Have watched a few times. Some of it seems to stem from laziness, then they just become overwhelmed. A few can be traced to things like, a fire when they were a very young, abusive parents who destroyed their childhood possessions, along that line. Yes, it is fascinating.
Fascinating show!! The scary thing is — this isn’t a few isolated incidents. Saw show last night and woman had
trouble just starting to throw out empty boxes. Her home was a huge house in a beautiful neighborhood in Virginia.
You would never know from looking at the outside what was
really going on in the inside. Just like a person’s mind...
