Not from what I’ve heard.

Stars gotta be insured in case they fall down, go boom in the middle of filming (very expensive when that happens). Out-of-control substance abusers can’t be insured, therefore no producer will hire them for fear of having their shooting schedule upended. Hollywood can forgive just about anything, up to and including pedophilia (re: Victor Salva, Roman Polanski) but that’s where they draw the line.

What damned fool would lay out money for a movie or show where their star might self implode at any minute.

Probably anyone who wants the top-rated sitcom on TV. Like everyone else, I wish he would get his act together. For me, however, I want that because I have really enjoyed the show for years. I think it has the best sitcom writing on TV.

What is really sad is that one of his 5 kids will probably end up dead at a young age from asphyxiating on their own vomit based on the main male role model in their lives.

True on all you said. If you have deep enough pockets, you can self-insure, though.

I see Charlie Sheen wearing a nice, clean, starched jacket real soon. Mark my words.

With an ack-tor you never know if it’s for real or not. Joaquin Phoenix just got off his “I’m Still Here” public weirdness jag. That was an act and everyone knew it.

I wish I could say this a stunt but I think we’ve passed the point where Charlie will say “just kidding”.

I’ll admit I always liked Charlie. I always have a soft spot for any actor who clearly does not take himself too seriously. And it’s true that he’s been given credit for single-handedly saving the half-hour sitcom format. I thought his character was funny, though I certainly would not want to have anything to do with such a louse in real life.

I fear the fatal overdose/DWI crash/pool drowning/you-name-it will soon follow. The culmination of a lifetime of unearned privilege and an enabling Hollywood culture where stupid, immoral behavior and unbridled arrogance are the norm and are excused as ‘a disease’, leaving the actor unaccountable. I wish no harm to Charlie Sheen but I do pity him. Lost in his haze of drugs and alcohol, Sheen is blind to the fact that his behavior is making him the opposite of what he desperately wants to be: loved and respected. Instead he is rejected, ridiculed and, inevitably, abandoned by his faux ‘friends’ and fans, alike. Poor Charlie. So rich, so famous and so lost to hubris and the Big Lie that is ‘Hollywood’.

Interesting. Do you know of any examples of actors doing this?

Not so much the actors, although they could too. The real money is with the studios and producers, and they could self-insure.

How long has Sheen been doing TWO AND A HALF MEN?

How long was John Belushi doing SNL ?
