'Running Bear' singer Johnny Preston dies

SOUTHEAST TEXAS - A pop ballad and rock singer from Port Arthur who became known for performing the song "Running Bear" has died.

Johnny Preston Courville, 71, died at Baptist Beaumont Hospital Friday afternoon, according to his son, Scott Preston.

I remember hearing this song in the bar scene in the “Crime Story” pilot back in the 80’s.

Great show.

That was a good song! I remember hearing that in the early seventies on AM radio while Dad drove us to a campsite somewhere, the smell of coffee, the sound of steelbelts... memories...

My Dad Loved that song. He even had his CB Handle named “Running Bear”.
