I cannot connect to one website using Firefox or Internet Explorer.
All other websites go through just fine.
I was able to connect with the problem website from another PC today so the problem is mine, not the site's.
You did not follow the full instructions!
Please type in this command:
nslookup
Then you get a prompt:
>
Enter the domain name at this prompt, for example:
>google.com
And hit enter.
Now try the domain you can’t reach. Type in ‘exit’ at the prompt to get out.
did you type “nslookup” first (without the quotes)?
I get the same response (not recognized as external/internal command...) if I don’t type in nslookup first...
Had the same problem this morning ... I have AVG and use their Firewall ... I had to reset my firewall settings as it was blocking “EVERYTHING” except Google
I was back up and running by 9:00
TT
ya gots to put in the http://www. stuff too?
Running a tracert check timed out. I don’t think the problem is with you. I think the problem is elsewhere. People were reporting problems with DU this weekend, too.
type this into your cmd window:
ping www.democraticunderground.com
If the site is up you will have success. If the site is down you will fail.
Ooops,sorry Will do.
Yep-——got that.
I did it correctly this time (I hope) and got “Request timed out- 2 seconds”
Ah me.
I just tried it (democraticunderground.com) and the Yahoo search engine page came up. WTF?
Some very strange things going on.
It times out on any name lookup request? Even Google.com?
Response should be very quick. I just did a whole bunch, only one timed out, and it worked on retry.
Strange goings on, indeed.
Your mommy blocked youporn.com....
Did that.
“Ping request could not find host. Check address and try again”
My address was OK,by the way.
Weird.
“Your mommy blocked youporn.com....”
Naaaah,it was probably one of my teenage grandkids-——they are very protective.
That means that the system couldn't find DU. That means IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT. The nameservers (the computers that turn (www.democraticunderground.com into the numbered address that is needed to reach the site) are broken and THAT is why you can't get there.
There is nothing wrong with your computer. It is a hit and miss proposition for people to get onto DU right now. For you it is mostly miss. For me, I got on once, but my tests couldn't get through. And there is nothing wrong with my computer I assure you.
So, you can relax until DU gets their own problems fixed and stop worrying about your computer. It's A-OK. :0)
Whew,what a relief.
My insecurities run wild when anything goes wrong with my PC. It has GOT to be me.
Thanks for your help.
No problem, FRiend. I get paranoid, too, when the stupid thing starts acting up. I hate it. So I try to keep it in real good shape and I try to learn these little tricks to find out if it's me or something else.
Fortunately, this time it was something else!
FRegards.
Just trid it at 5:04pm eastern and its working. If you still are getting an error, delete your browsing history. delete temp files, and repost, if you get in please repost as well. as an aside, read that the hacker group ananomous was attacking DU with a ddos attack.
