One dark night outside a small town, a fire started inside the local chemical plant. Before long it exploded into flames and an alarm went out to fire departments from miles around. After fighting the fire for over an hour, the chemical company president approached the fire chief and said, “All of our secret formulas are in the vault in the center of the plant. They must be saved! I will give $50,000 to the engine company that brings them out safely!”

As soon as the chief heard this, he ordered the firemen to strengthen their attack on the blaze. After two more hours of attacking the fire, president of the company offered $100,000 to the engine company that could bring out the company’s secret files. From the distance a long siren was heard as another fire truck came into sight. It was a local volunteer fire company composed entirely of men over 65. To everyone’s amazement the little fire engine raced through the chemical plant gates and drove straight into the middle of the inferno. In the distance the other firemen watched as the old timers hopped off of their rig and began to fight the fire with an effort that they had never seen before.

After an hour of intense fighting the volunteer company had extinguished the fire and saved the secret formulas. Joyous the chemical company president announced that he would double the reward to $200,000 and walked over to personally thank each of the volunteers. After thanking each of the old men individually the president asked the group what they intended to do with the reward money. The fire truck driver looked him right in the eye and said, “The first thing we’re going to do is fix the stupid brakes on that truck!”

Thank you! What’s funny is that posting the Monty Pythonesque graphic of the DCs being squished was a defense mechanism because of my nic, which preceded anything that the DCs did. I had never heard of them when I chose my nic, but I caught the dickens on FR simply because I’m a dixie chick.

That wonderful creation is FR’s own SerpentDove’s...isn’t he brilliant?

Good Morning & happy Lord's Day to All. Home from a quick trip to Ft Benning (Columbus Ga) for commissioning/graduation service from OCS to the young man who will marry my niece this summer. He will do Infantry school & Ranger school next.

Still cold here but no snow thank the Lord. I loved the sun & warm weather in the south while there but the pollens were terrible & so thus were my allergies/headaches.

Met up with FReeper Jemian who lives in Auburn about 40 miles away who made the trip so we could have some time together.

Was touristy & saw some great things to & from & while there. Of course overate. It is always wonderful for me to share time wiht my brother & his family

I enjoyed our visit as well. It is so good to be able to put actual faces with our screen names. Maybe we can get together again during my next furlough, too.

Theology Is For Everyone
March 27, 2011

Some say that theology is only for “professionals.” But the situation in the days of the prophet Jeremiah illustrates why it’s important for everyone to know what God says about Himself.

The religious experts in Jeremiah’s day were misrepresenting God by prophesying “the delusions of their own minds” (Jer. 23:26 NIV) and leading people astray with their lies (v.32). Due to their dishonesty, the people did not know the true nature of God.

Today there are people who portray God as angry, vengeful, and eager to punish people for every minor offense. God, however, describes Himself as “merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth” (Ex. 34:6). Others show the world a picture of a loving God who is too kind to punish wrongdoing. But God describes Himself as one who exercises judgment and righteousness (Jer. 9:24). He is both a just Judge and a loving Father. If we emphasize one over the other, we paint a false picture of God.

The most important thing we can know about God and proclaim to the world is that God does not want to punish people; He wants them to repent so that He can forgive (2 Peter 3:9). But to be truly loving, He must also be absolutely just.

Though love for God should always move
My heart to do what’s good and right,
It’s wise to fear His judgments true
And stand in awe of His great might. —D. De Haan

Everyone must face God as Savior or as Judge.

Read: Jeremiah 23:25-32

I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. —Jeremiah 9:24
Bible in a year:
Judges 1-3; Luke 4:1-30

Thank you, Rus, for this wise devotion.

That was beautiful, Gail. We used to hear all those good old hymns when I was younger but churches today sing a different kind of music.

We’re overcast here, too, but the temp is 41 at the moment. It was chillier yesterday. Won’t be long until we are complaining about how HOT IT IS!

CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN SPRING

See! The winter is past;
the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
is heard in our land.
The fig tree forms its early fruit;
the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
Song of Solomon 2:11-13
