Accidental, my ass.
You get what you pay for. Forward the messages to someplace more reliable if they matter to you.
Usually they would restore from backup. However, running the job that restores multiple petabytes may well take several days.
Seriously, if something is that valuable, back it up!
LOL! I have a GMail account, and I don’t think I’ve looked at it in almost a year. I don’t use it for my day to day e-mail, but got it so I could establish it as my name, before someone else who might have the same name got it. We have a town internet account, but whenever we move, I’ll lose that, and will want an already established e-mail account to use, no matter where we go.
I use several Gmail accounts as backup when my own mail server is acting up, or I am having trouble getting or receiving from a client. Thunderbird will access (receive and send) Gmail like any other POP3. So when I actually use the account, my messages are brought down to my PC. I only access via the web to delete the originals, now and then.
This is why important e-mails get saved to a flash drive.
Easiest way to have a backup is what I did- I have Thunderbird and set it up as an IMAP client (gmail has an IMAP server). Keeps a local copy of everything.
I have several gmail accounts and I automatically forwarded the messages to my TW account and delete them in gmail at the same time.
The cloud inevitably loses things.
Dad Voice -
If you truly value your data it is your responsibility to back it up onsite as well. Don’t whine when “free” services fail. Very likely someone with experience told you to back things up but you couldn’t have been bothered.

Back it up yourself, at least.
I run my own POP3 server, so I have control.
I use Gmail but POP everything. Screw their cloud.
This is why I store all my emails locally on my computer.
I only have a Gmail account due to my Android based Samsung Epic 4G. I downloaded the Yahoo! application for Android so I don’t have to route my email through Gmail to look at it on my Epic. The only thing worse than Google losing years of emails is their indexing every word of every email in your Gmail account.
It is best not to use Google for ANYTHING.
For search I use Startpage. Unlike Google, they do not record your IP.
I do, however, have a Gmail account, but use it ONLY for
bulk mail things like WND or Newsmax updates.
I never use it for anything personal.
I use Gmail all the time, but if it’s important I back it up or hit “print”.
This is exactly why I don’t trust my data to the cloud.
Guys I have about 5000 business emails on Gmail. I need some advice on steps on how to back up or use of POP or whatever. I can’t lose these, but I’m no computer guru and really don’t know the best way or how to.
Any help will be deeply appreciated.
Gmail seems to have several problems lately. I know three different people who had their email accounts hacked in the last couple of months on that service. I wondered why my bud in Fort Smith kept sending me Viagra mailings ;)
