anyone know why they chose to depict the Navy/Marine Corp/Coast Guard version of the medal?

Not complaining...just curious.

It’s a Commerative Coin. The US Mint releases these periodically, but this is the first one I’ve seen issued in GOLD. I don’t usually buy Commeratives except I did buy the Lincoln, in Proof and Circulated. Also, the Boy Scouts Commerative, also in Proof & Circulated.

The Mint needs money. Some of these coins however, increase quite rapidly in value, particularly those with a finite mintage.
