anyone know why they chose to depict the Navy/Marine Corp/Coast Guard version of the medal?

Not complaining...just curious.

The obverse of the gold coin depicts the original design and was awarded to Navy and Army recipients alike. The Army later changed the design of their medal, in part because the insignia of the Grand Army of the Republic, a veterans’ organization bore a close resemblance to the Medal of Honor and they wanted a design that could be protected from imitation.

The silver coin depicts the designs of all three services. The Marine Corps uses the Navy design.
