The governor should take a lesson from Reagan. When the air traffic controllers went on strike he fired every one of them. He wasn't playing games to coddle loafers. The governor needs to say (and mean) that every state worker will report to work on Monday. Any one of them that is late or absent or dilatory in any way will be fired. Then do it. This isn't a game and they aren't the "loyal opposition". Also, he needs to start organizing his supporters and get them over there to balance the playing field. PR is huge in these situations, and right now it looks like the unions have it all on their side. It should be possible to get two people there for every one from the unions. As for the missing legislators, I don't know if there is recall in Wisconsin, but if there is, get to it.

This isn't a game and they aren't the "loyal opposition". Act accordingly.

The problem is that this is not technically a strike. In the eyes of the law, especially now with doctors handing out sick notes, it is just a bunch of workers who are making use of accumulated sick leave. There's probably nothing the governor can do force these slackers back to work, which is why he needs to strip them of their collective bargaining rights first.

As other posters have pointed out, the Democrats are only needed to deal with fiscal matters. The remaining GOP legislators in Wisconsin should perhaps use this free time to pass other bills that would benefit the residents of this state. Perhaps the first one would be that any government worker hired in the future would only be allowed to accumulate personal time off, instead of being allowed sick days.

I believe Reagan was able to do so because in the PATCO contract had specific language that did not give them the right to strike. Reagan warned them of the consequences and acted when they refused to comply with the law.

As much as I like the idea, I think we have a different situation here. Although, technically they aren't on strike. So I guess Walker could fire them.

Make that Tuesday. Monday is a mandatory furlough day - that is, a required day of unpaid leave. At least for the DOT.
