they’re a great American fish.

Aren’t they just as boney as eel?
They were considered trash fish where we use to fish in Kansas.
Has anyone eaten one?

I’ve tasted gar, but didn’t care for it in the least. It is a very popular fish in the black community ... they will actually buy the stuff at stores that offer it. And, yes, it is very bony.

Considered a trash fish in Louisiana too. I’m not aware of anyone I know having eaten it, and I know I’ve never seen it on a menu.

I have. If you have the right homemade device to clean them it is easy and boneless. They have a light flakey flesh. Close to lobster and about as good dipped in melted butter. I love them. Yea we bow fish them.
