Need Help-- Articles that show trend of regulation

Posted on 02/16/2011 10:04:50 AM PST by agooga

Little help here? I think we all operate on the general assumption that industry and us, personally, are far more regulated in small and large ways than we were - say - 50 years ago. A quick trip to the search engines didn't find me the articles I needed to back up my point.

Can anyone link me to some good ones that show that the overall trend is toward more regulation over time? This should be a no-brainer.

Look up (on Google) the trend of pages in the Federal Register, which is the amount of regulation reviewed and decreed by Federal agencies. It goes up ... and up.

There’s also this other search engine called “Free Republic.” Sometimes you get good results with that one too!

Ahh! That’s a GOOD one. See La Lydia? I never would have thought to search on “federal register.” Turns out it yields some GOOD articles.

You have never heard of the Federal Register? By the way, Cato has a ton off stuff on regulatory overkill. You are the kid who always wanted to copy my homework.

You are the kid who always wanted to copy my homework.

I was gonna let this go.....'cause it's just the kind of easy goin' guy I am.....but I felt a teaching moment was in order.

I acknowledge that you tend to get quite a few trolls here on FR, but you also get the once in a while "I need your help because I don't have your knowledge" kind of posts. You can respond to a question about increasing federal regulations one of two ways: 1) Be as helpful as you can in hopes to educate another individual....and thereby gain a political ally. or 2) mock an individual for their obvious lack of knowledge while leaving them ignorant .... and set them on the path to becoming a political enemy.

As a Freeper AND a free citizen, you can choose either option. However, if you choose option two, please keep your mouth shut when you lose your job because your company fails due to over-regulation.

A good way to measure this on a macro level is to find out how many pages are in the CFR (code of federal regulations). It changes a lot over time. I don’t know where to get that—but it should be a good starting search term.

I have seen the numbers thru the Bush II administration. Surprisingly, Bush II expanded the CFR quite a bit. Reagan greatly shrunk it. I’d be astonished if Zero’s regulators had not increased it a whole lot.

Wait til they try to implement Obamacare! And the EPA is going to go nuts unless its funding is cut back sharply.

Well, aren’t you the self-righteous prig o’ the week? Teaching moment, indeed. That is Obama’s line. Please see my multiple earlier posts, going back 11 years, on government regulation and deregulation. Please see the multiple posts by others on this forum about government regulation. Introductions to reality do not political enemies make. As I told this person before you felt an irresistible urge to butt in, Cato has good information on government regulation. “I was gonna let this go....” Who the hell do you think you are? At least agooga has a sense of humor.

Maybe this will help. The HC bill is only one of many, many huge, complex regulatory bills.

No harm no foul.
I’m used to a LOT worse when I go against the liberal jackals.

I’m usually very good about finding what I need on the search engines— not this time, because I needed a little help with the search terms. And I got it, so all’s good.

Did you look at the Cato stuff? It is fairly comprehensive.

I am looking at it, but the thesis I am attempting to prove is a macro one— the liberal jackals like to claim that we live in a fundamentally less regulated nation today than of 50 years ago. I’m looking for articles that demonstrate that the trend is the opposite.

Look under building codes for a start. I am personally experiencing growth in this. One of many new codes is that I need a permit to replace more than 2 sq feet of dry wall. $50 fee to build a gazebo in your back yard in Iowa.

Small town in Iowa has to build a sewage system that meets the specs for Florida.

New Gov Bransted in Iowa is attempting to reign in bureaucracy to stimulate business. I attended one of his state wide meetings and I think he is real on this but it is a tough battle.

My observation is that most people are sheep and it is not getting documented.

Research the paperwork reduction act by Reagen that was suppose to stop this.
