“He is an addict regardless of his course of action.”
The longer a person is sober the less chemically dependent they are. The less chemically dependent they become, the less addicted they are. Therefore, a person who is no longer chemically dependent through prolonged total abstinence is no longer an addict. However, former addicts sometimes retain their addictive tendencies throughout periods of sobriety and will sometimes laspe back into an addiction and chemical dependency.
Tell me where that logic is flawed without using the psych-babble of the pop-psychology of the day.
Not all people are powerless to the extent that chemical dependency is inescapable and that addiction is “forever”.
I’ve spoken to thousands of alcoholics over the past ten years of sobriety, and I can tell you that your position is just plain wrong. No matter how long the period of abstinence, an addicted person will quickly, if not instantly revert to their former pattern of consumption, if not worse. There is a tendency to “Make up for lost time”.
You know nothing about addiction
If a person is chemically dependent, he can be sober for years but will use just as addictively as before if they start again.
You can remove the alcohol but still be selfish, self centered, a liar, a cheat, and an ahole. (Dry drunk). You have to get out of the stinkin thinkin to recover.
