TCM Classic Movie Alert 2/15/11
TCM ^ | 2/15/11 | Vision

Posted on 02/15/2011 4:41:25 PM PST by Vision

I had an idea to alert The Big Broadcast ping list of when fantastic classic movies play on TCM. Just trying the idea out to see if there is interest.

Tonight a gem...My Man Godfrey (1936), at 8pm est.

TCM Classic Movie Alert!

(Just trying an idea out on The Big Broadcast ping list. Let me know if this is a bother.)

Excellent idea!

Matter of fact, I bought one of my favourite movies from their Website---The Enchanted Cottage (Robert Young, Dorothy McGuire, Herbert Marshall---about a socialite who goes to World War II on the near-eve of his wedding, after renting a run-down but rustic New England cottage for their honeymoon, and returns disfigured and embittered until he finds a companion in the cottage's lonely, plain caretaker . . . and they both discover just what's so enchanted about the cottage's legend. Marshall damn near steals the show as the blind pianist who befriends them, and Mildred Natwick is a low-keyed charm as the haunted cottage owner.)

I don’t have TCM, but if it’s a classic film, I undoubtedly have it in my DVD collection, so please add me to this ping list!

Ever see “Ruggles of Red Gap” with Charles Laughton? I highly recommend it.

I saw "Lady Killers" a few years back and liked it. Tom Hanks did a remake; not nearly as good.

Again, funny you should mention Guiness. I watched "The Card" with him a couple of weeks ago. But I did not like it as much.

Check out "The Captain's Paradise" with Guiness. That was a good one.

That’s one I’ve always wanted to see but never quite caught it. I’ll have to make a special effort.

If you like old musicals (with Alice Faye) on Netflix right now they have “Tin Pan Alley” (which is not out on DVD). It has Alice AND Betty Grable. And just some great musical moments. I just mentioned it on another thread about patriotic music - It has “America I love you” in it. Jack Oakie, John Payne, and Alice Faye do a great old time music trio that I love in it.

Another suggestion..."Make Mine Mink".

Classic Brit movie with Terry Thomas. Some funny scenes!

We have Dish Network with a dvr - Dvr’s are GREAT!

I don't seem to have much luck with the TCM db - I search Google like this:
tcm trouble in paradise

and get this:

Best to you today!

Thanks for the suggestions and enthusiasm.

My initial idea for the thread is to be an alert to movies run on TCM primarily at 8pm est Monday through Friday- offering an escape from the workday. Unfortunately those on pst may not get as much value out of this list (I wonder why TCM doesn't run on a delay?). But I'm open to ideas.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out...

William Powell, great actor.
I to am a great fan of TCM, in-fact it’s the only TV I really watch. If a character interest me while watching a movie, I often do research on them, and some are quite fascinating, especially in the marriage area. Both male and female actors average three to four marriages?

Link below for Powell.

Guess I’d better join the rush for the ping list. One of my motto’s, they don’t make em like that anymore.

I have all of those movies on a supplemental hard drive from my DishNetwork DVR. Only thing I cannot figure out is how to make the hard drive compatible with my computer, so I can burn them to disc and save them more easily. ANYONE KNOW HOW TO DO THIS?

I would also love to be added to the TCM list, as I watch an awful lot of it. As a matter of fact, I have over 30 movies on my DVR/HD combo from TCM.
