Sea Shepherd Interrupts Illegal Whale Slaughter (WHALE WARS)
Sea Shepherd ^ | 2/9/11 | Sea Shepherd

Posted on 02/09/2011 11:51:05 AM PST by Dengar01

The Sea Shepherd scout vessel Gojira found the illegal Japanese whaling ship Sea Shepherd calls the Cetacean Death Star at 2115 NZST on February 9th. The Nisshin Maru was caught in the process of unlawfully flensing a whale on their aft deck at the position of 74 degrees 16 minutes south and 149 degrees 2 minutes west.

The Gojira immediately gave chase as the Nisshin Maru attempted to escape by entering a field of ice. The Gojira attempted to block the huge factory ship to buy time for the Bob Barker to arrive from some 28 miles away. Captain Locky MacLean engaged the Nisshin Maru in a skirmish, and notified the Japanese whalers that they were not to continue their illegal whaling.

The Nisshin Maru seemed to be engaged in flensing operations at the time it was discovered. Work lights illuminated the deck as water was being flushed over the sides and brown-red stains were visible along the aft deck of the vessel around the scuppers/ drain holes, while black smoke bellowed from the factory smoke stack.

Photo: Gary StokesThe Gojira was stopped in an area of growlers and floe ice as the Nisshin Maru proceeded to bear down on her. Despite several VHF calls to alter course, the Nisshin Maru closed in on the Gojira. When the Nisshin Maru was 40 meters away, Captain MacLean fired a flare to signal the Nisshin Maru to alter course. The Japanese factory ship altered course to starboard, as the Gojira slid 20 meters down her port side.

At 0220 on February 10th, the Nisshin Maru and one of the harpoon boats entered thick pack ice after several hours of zigzagging through loose floe ice. The Gojira kept up skirting the ice edge, meeting the Nisshin Maru on the far side of each floe using her speed advantage.

The Nisshin Maru proceeded to the south towards an area of pack ice. It appeared as if the Gojira was about to lose the factory ship in the thick ice when the Bob Barker arrived just in time to take over the pursuit.

At 0400 hours, the Bob Barker placed itself immediately aft to the stern slipway of the Nisshin Maru to block any further attempts to offload dead whales. The Bob Barker is now easily pursuing the Nisshin Maru through thick pack ice with the Gojira continuing to skirt around the ice looking for harpoon vessels.

The Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin departed from Wellington, New Zealand at 1800 hours on February 9th and is expected to meet up with the Sea Shepherd fleet and the Japanese whaling fleet in about five days.

The Bob Barker needs to hold position on the stern of the Nisshin Maru until the Steve Irwin can assist it. By blocking the stern slipway, the factory ship is unable to load dead whales from the harpoon vessels, allowing Sea Shepherd to effectively shut down their illegal whaling operations.

You freakin’ Moron eco-nazi. The Seal hunts are done by the NATIVE INUITS. Why do you have no respect for native cultures?

Doesn’t that go against the Nutjob Code?

‘If’ Sea Shepherd rammed the Japanese whaling ships, they always presented themselves to the Japanese to accept the consequences. ‘We rammed your boat at this longitude and latitude’ ‘We knocked your driftnet block off’ or something like that. The Japanese response was always that they had no ship in the waters in question. If a crime is being committed (whaling) and someone stops that crime from being perpetrated, where is the crime?

In 2004, a TV show in Japan actually explored this in Wakayama, because of the same concern as the one you voiced. They found that in fishing centers around Wakayama prefecture (Tanabe, Kushimoto, Taiji) the elevated mercury didn’t result in increased cancer or other problems.

Furthermore, Taiji was examined for mercury poisoning and none of its inhabitants exhibited any symptoms.

I’m also not worried about what I eat, because I wash and cook it. Nothing is 100% clean.

Nor the brutal slaughterers of innocent soybean plants!

Just because they can't run doesn't give the vicious vegetarians and their running dog plastic and paint industry masters the right to cut 'em off at the knees!

There are millions of living human beings whose intestinal tracts, livers and renal function have been obviously adapted for a diet high in seal meat.

Attacks on seal and whale hunters are an attack on those humans.

They have a God given right of self-defense ~ and attempts to destroy their use of their range is the kind of thing that merits the death penalty.

A good seal skin pelt was going for about $90 Canadian when you were there. No way are they cutting the penises off and then throwing almost a $100 bill away to drown, you are full of shit.

You would be very surprised what some "cultures" in Asia consume for various reasons.

Shark fin is really popular I believe for erectile issues as well.

I have seen footage in the Caribbean where various sharks are caught they cut the fins off and toss them in the water where they die.

I can try and find the video for you. I just think that some "cultures" need to get caught up with the 21st Century and put the mysticism aside.

Now we saw lots of people on FR go nuts over the sick games that occur in the Middle East where for instance they cut off a goats head and play soccer with it. But in the case of the sick practices of some Asian "cultures" there is absolute silence. If Islamists were eating shark fins because they believed it would make them superior Jihadists certain FReepers who are condemning us who are anti-whaling / dolphin would be going nutty.

Hypocrisy occurs on both the left and the right.

Paul Watson also controls two covert groups under the SSCS umbrella. He established the Oceanic Research and Conservation Action Force (O.R.C.A. Watson’s second group, the Coeur du Bois (Heart of the Wood), is an underground group of tree-spikers. Watson claims to have invented tree spiking

They're lucky I'm not a Japanese captain. I'd have a nice little 25mm Bofors surprise bolted to my deck just waiting for these clowns.

A couple of dozen HE rounds in the wheelhouse and a few at the waterline, then just watch whatever survived freeze and slide under the waves.

Oh I have no doubt that they harvested the penises for the Chinese, that was not what I took issue with.

She said they just took them but threw the seal away to drown, and that is total BS. The Canadians who harvest the pelts do it for a reason, and that is for the cash. They were taken, killed and then processed for their pelts which brought almost $90 each at that time, she made it out to be they did it for their penis and then through the rest away, and that did NOT happen.

As I've stated on all whale war threads that pan_yan and I have made over the years I do not support Watson or Sea Shepherd.

I've referred to him as a fat slob. I think he is dangerous. I think he wants to see one of his "crew" killed so he has a martyr. He is a media whore who creates events and follows the Marxist guideline. He creates events and then goes crying to the media.

So please don't paint me as a Sea Shepherd supporter.

Like I said I am anti-whaling / dolphin slaughter but that does not equate to being a supporter of Watson. I have no respect for him and think he is the biggest media whore in the world.

Again, the point is that the Japanese have a different culture than you do. I lived in Wakayama prefecture for a while, have been to Taiji, have eaten whale and dolphin, and see no problem with a VERY SMALL segment of Japanese engaging in whaling. Whale meat is found very rarely in the Osaka area, and I have never seen it in Nagoya, Tokyo, or any of the other regions.

So you believe that whaling should end. More power to you. But there is no reason to send a bunch of hippies out on the seas, just as it is stupid to send a bunch of hippies into China and Korea to bother people about eating dog.

Yes, the Japanese military was brutal to the point of inhumanity in WWII. Japan is a different place now. I have seen it. Furthermore, the “country’s mentality” of today is not the same as the “military mentality” of WWII. Japan has no military, and guns are banned there.

So I say sink the Sea Shepard. Maybe we won’t chase them down and kill the members of the crew for their cultural choice to smoke limitless amounts of weed, keep their hair and body unclean, and punctuate every other phrase with the words “man” and “dude.” Similarly, we shouldn’t chase down the inhabitants of southern Wakayama prefecture for doing something they’ve been doing for hundreds of years.

Have you seen any video of the dolphin slaughter? The rage in the eyes of the "fishermen" is amazing. And if this was something that they are proud of why do they ban all media from videotaping the dolphin slaughter? It was only because some of the activists outsmarted the "fishermen" and got video tape of the slaughter.

This is completely different from the moonbats following Watson. Like I said I have ZERO respect for Watson and I do believe he will end up with a dead crew member because he is arrogant and wants a martyr.

Going back to mercury though I would stay away from it with a ten foot pole. You probably know where the term "mad hatter" comes from. Mercury is not something that is good for the human body it screws the brain up just as the weed screws up the hippies in Sea Shepherd.

Yeah I am with you on that one. I would think it would be stupid to kill a seal for one part when the pelts are worth money. Although I am not familiar with seals. I know they are hunted for their pelts though so you are 100% correct in what you say.
