Sea Shepherd Interrupts Illegal Whale Slaughter (WHALE WARS)
Sea Shepherd ^ | 2/9/11 | Sea Shepherd

Posted on 02/09/2011 11:51:05 AM PST by Dengar01

The Sea Shepherd scout vessel Gojira found the illegal Japanese whaling ship Sea Shepherd calls the Cetacean Death Star at 2115 NZST on February 9th. The Nisshin Maru was caught in the process of unlawfully flensing a whale on their aft deck at the position of 74 degrees 16 minutes south and 149 degrees 2 minutes west.

The Gojira immediately gave chase as the Nisshin Maru attempted to escape by entering a field of ice. The Gojira attempted to block the huge factory ship to buy time for the Bob Barker to arrive from some 28 miles away. Captain Locky MacLean engaged the Nisshin Maru in a skirmish, and notified the Japanese whalers that they were not to continue their illegal whaling.

The Nisshin Maru seemed to be engaged in flensing operations at the time it was discovered. Work lights illuminated the deck as water was being flushed over the sides and brown-red stains were visible along the aft deck of the vessel around the scuppers/ drain holes, while black smoke bellowed from the factory smoke stack.

Photo: Gary StokesThe Gojira was stopped in an area of growlers and floe ice as the Nisshin Maru proceeded to bear down on her. Despite several VHF calls to alter course, the Nisshin Maru closed in on the Gojira. When the Nisshin Maru was 40 meters away, Captain MacLean fired a flare to signal the Nisshin Maru to alter course. The Japanese factory ship altered course to starboard, as the Gojira slid 20 meters down her port side.

At 0220 on February 10th, the Nisshin Maru and one of the harpoon boats entered thick pack ice after several hours of zigzagging through loose floe ice. The Gojira kept up skirting the ice edge, meeting the Nisshin Maru on the far side of each floe using her speed advantage.

The Nisshin Maru proceeded to the south towards an area of pack ice. It appeared as if the Gojira was about to lose the factory ship in the thick ice when the Bob Barker arrived just in time to take over the pursuit.

At 0400 hours, the Bob Barker placed itself immediately aft to the stern slipway of the Nisshin Maru to block any further attempts to offload dead whales. The Bob Barker is now easily pursuing the Nisshin Maru through thick pack ice with the Gojira continuing to skirt around the ice looking for harpoon vessels.

The Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin departed from Wellington, New Zealand at 1800 hours on February 9th and is expected to meet up with the Sea Shepherd fleet and the Japanese whaling fleet in about five days.

The Bob Barker needs to hold position on the stern of the Nisshin Maru until the Steve Irwin can assist it. By blocking the stern slipway, the factory ship is unable to load dead whales from the harpoon vessels, allowing Sea Shepherd to effectively shut down their illegal whaling operations.

I wonder if hippies are any good to eat? They are mammals and vegetarian, so they probably should taste alot like pork.

By “seal-whackin’” I meant that few on this forum harbor much sympathy toward eco-terrorists. Which is what Long John Watson and his band of rowboat scalawags are.

I was wondering how a fellow traveler with Watson and Co. ever ended up here.

In your case, I can see that it’s the result of a tofu overdose.

” when someone does get killed on that show it will be because of jackasses like you cheering them on from behind a keyboard.”

Conversly then, when the Japanese government halts whaling, as they have just done, and every one of the Sea Shepherds return to Australia safe and sound, to a heroes welcome, it will be because of me, my monetary contributions to them, and brave souls such as our own cowgirl.

Gee, you’re making me feel kinda good about myself!

“I can see that it’s the result of a tofu overdose.”

I am always in awe of those who possess psychic abilities, especially those who can see all the way back to my past of three years ago, the last time I had tofu.

Seriously though, naysayers be on notice: THE JAPANESE HAVE STOPPED BOTHERING THE WHALES!

“By “seal-whackin’” I meant that few on this forum harbor much sympathy toward eco-terrorists.”

Eco-terrorists: Someone who drives a spike into a tree to frighten and possibly injure a logger.

Sea Shepherd: Absolute commitment to non-violence. Recently disavowed association with skipper of Ady Gil for even bringing a bow and. arrow along. Not one documented credible injury or loss of life in all of the arctic ocean campaigns.

Average intelligence: the amount of intelligence needed to differentiate between the two examples above.

It never mattered to me whether they whaled or not, personally I have no problem with them going out and taking a few whales each year, there are plenty of the species they are hunting. What matters to me is a bunch of people dangerously interfering with a ship in international waters like they were doing and the tactics they employed. If you support what they do then where does it end? If you believe that global warming is killing your beloved whales will it be okay for them to do the same thing with supertankers someday? Even Greenpeace admits what they are doing isn’t cutting into the birth/death rate of any species hunted so this is nothing more than emotion driven at all levels here. Your love of whales finds it okay to do whatever is necessary to save them, cheering people on using their tactics is damn near supporting terrorism when you get down to it, and THAT is what I have always had a problem with Watson over.

They are, but I better not go any further with that one except to say if they have cholera you should avoid’em like the plague.

"They are being harvested and consumed by people. They are also being counted and managed like we do Beef cattle, pigs and chickens."

But we don't have Beef dead pigs and chickens insold and stocked in warehouses. "the annual increase in targeted Southern Ocean whales means that supply is already outstripping demand, a situation “unthinkable for an ordinary business entity” according to the accountant of a major audit corporation quoted by the Asahi Shimbun." "the Asahi Shimbun newspaper reported that the whalers were struggling to pay back $1 billion Yen in borrowed public funds. With a massive 4,000 ton stockpile of unconsumed whalemeat."

“Your love of whales finds it okay to do whatever is necessary to save them, cheering people on using their tactics...”

Non-violent intervention isn’t doing “whatever is necessary.”

Otherwise they would have slapped some C-4 on the Japanese whaling boats, (like the French did to Greenpeace) a long time ago.

(See above post re: average etc.)

I gave you the benefit of the doubt re the tofu. My other suspicion was bong-water poisoning ...

Naivete: the childish belief that the testimony of a self-righteous attention whore on his own behalf is more credible that the evidence of your own eyes.

I saw videotape of an episode in which one of Long John’s ships came up alongside a whaler that had a boom out with the avowed intent of tearing the boom off aand disabling the operation. Violence against property, as also cited in several quotations above, is violence too.

>>“.... and they’ve been doing it for at least a thousand years. They’ve got a freaking festival for it.”

>Cool. Must respect all cultures equally. Politically correct donchaknow.

I’m not being hypocritical. I find whale meat tasty, and I think that the small group of people who do what they do should be able to do it.

It is hypocritical for lefties to use the “foreign culture=we don’t interfere” with everyone BUT the Japanese.

Your argument, however, is meaningless because a whale is not a human. It is a mammal, as is a cow, as is a pig. We eat those non-human mammals as well.

[Guess you were dead wrong. They weren’t playing no games. They were risking their lives for what they believe in. They won. Are you man enough to admit you were wrong?]

I will guarantee I am more man than you, and I’m not apologizing for anything. Whales are big cows, I see no problem culling the herd at a reasonable level. Whales are sort of like hippies, who also need culling for the general good.

” Whales are sort of like hippies.”

Know what you mean. I spotted a group of Orcas hanging out singing old Bob Dylan songs. Yeah, yeah, I know what you’re gonna say, but no, it wasn’t the electrified stuff, just pure acoustic.

Best I can do? Sea Shepherd won. That’s the best anyone could do. Afterwards she said, “He’ll never admit he’s wrong. That’s what I hate about him.”
