The last days had dwindled down to a final few. Evil was moving and extremely confident while Good was leaderless. The Middle East was in turmoil and Evil was now in position to finally achieve its only goal - the destruction of mankind.
That destruction was to start, to no one's surprise, with the annihilation of Israel. Annihilation was now portable. A few travelers to whom death was an honor would deliver suitcases filled with devices of ultimate horror.
Those suitcases had been gathered and assembled from around the world by a cabal that transcended race, religion, culture and nation - for Evil is a principality unto itself.
The untraceable destruction of Israel would precipitate the rise of terror and misery the world had never seen. And it was all but done - only the doing remained. There seemed so little hope.
But it was not to be. Even as the travelers were making their final preparations for the horrible deed, the world changed. It began in Egypt.
Worldwide communication systems were in place to monitor exotic avian disease in Egypt. And because of a nagging concern by many people this system was heavily screened. That watchfulness would make all the difference in the history of our species.
It was first reported as a sudden rash of unexplained deaths marked by acute respiratory distress. Because it occurred in Egypt and the initial symptoms matched those to be expected with a virulent outbreak of avian disease in humans the communication system went on full alert.
Within the next few days that initial presumption would be shattered and the horrible truth could not be denied. Some say that it went global because of tourists fleeing Africa to the far corners of the earth, others would maintain that the virus itself changed worldwide at the same time. We will never know.
The break out in Egypt was soon followed by a pandemic of rapid death that would have ended our species forever had it not been for those few watchers.
Two different and opposite behaviors emerged as the news spread. The vast majority of individuals poured into the larger cities looking for expert medical care, while a very few others did not. They, somewhere in the first few days, fled to the mountains, the desert or the sea.
Their cars were packed with provisions, or their cabins were stocked and ready. They left immediately and isolated themselves from the world. They had known or feared such a day was imminent and had gathered all the preparations and fortitude necessary to escape.
The virus would burn for eleven days and then die. Never to be seen on earth again and would leave in its wake only death. Were it not for the few, there would be no mankind.
They would never return to the cities of death. Instead they reclaimed the land and raised children. Modern technology did not die nor did the species - but it did change.
The survivors were different. Their intuition/precognition/perceptiveness had saved them and they would never doubt that connection with the future again.
The genetic gift of acute perception or sensitivity was a trait they embraced and cultivated. They were different.
And so it was.

Cairo’s ‘Apocalypse Horse’ creates ‘net buzz
The Egypt uprising has made all the headlines and maintained the interest of our web readers. No surprise then that our story Clashes resume in Cairo was our most viewed on the day it was published. One week later though and it is still our most sought-after story. Not just on our website but on YouTube, where it appears under the title Fourth Horseman, death.
We had to watch the video to get to the bottom of its remarkable popularity. And there it was, at 1’17” – a pale ghost rider appears to have joined the uprising.
A quick look at similar videos on YouTube confirmed that it was not just euronews who had broadcast the mystery horseman. There were plenty of comments referring to the biblical fourth horse of the Apocalypse. The New Testament tells us that each of the four horses is attributed a colour – white, red, black and pale - and a scourge – conquest, war, famine and death - to bring upon the world.
Everyone has their own interpretation; some believe the fourth horse really has come to bring death upon the land; others point to beings from another planet; most seem to think it’s just a reflection in a window.
We checked the origin of the video and it was provided to us – and to many other media outlets – by REUTERS. So while the footage may have caused a stir, be assured there is no horseplay on our behalf.
