Today, Al Jardine notified his legion of Facebook followers, that he and fellow founding member Brian Wilson had been invited by Mike Love to join Love on stage for the upcoming Ronald Reagan tribute concert.

From his home in Big Sur Jardine said, "I am pleased to be playing at the Ronald Reagan centennial event with Mike and Bruce. Later this year we celebrate the Beach Boys' 50th anniversary so this is a nice way to begin that process. We were asked to play at President Reagen's second inaugural, so it seems only fitting we show our respect to the President once again. I hope Brian will be able to join us at this historic event." At the time of the announcement Wilson had declined.
According to The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Library website, the concert is "comprised of live music and in-person and video tributes from world leaders and prominent individuals whose lives were impacted by the legacy of President Reagan." The group is set to play a 20-minute set during the two-hour program on Saturday, February 5, and the weekends activities will be streamed live on the Foundations website from 7:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. PST. You can watch the concert live by watching at: www.reaganfoundation.org/live-webcasts.aspx.
(I don't see "examiner.com" on the FR "Must Excerpt" list, so there's no reason not to post the article.)
WARNING that the site Examiner.com is a blog that spews pop-ups.
Just sayin'....
I'll have to check it out over the internet, though.... I'm stranded in icy, snowy, upstate NY for the foreseeable future.
Al Jardine, and Bruce Johnston always seemed to be the most normal members of the band.
Me too. Too bad the California Beach Girls have become Bull Dykes with underarm hair.
I absolutely love the Beach Boys, fond memories growing up with them. So glad and impressed to hear they’re doing this!
Okay, thanks ever so much for that visual image. I'm going to go over in the corner and cry now.
Then I'm going to stare at this for a while until I feel better:
There ya go! I just get a mental picture of a bull dyke sitting in a tree in Oakland when I think of a California girl now.
Sorry to hear that. But there is a cure.
Go to Google Images, and search on "California girls", or "beach babes", etc.
Be sure to set "Safe Search" properly for your tastes before you do the search, of course. :)
Brian Wilson is a still a schizo. I saw him on some late night show some couple years back and he could barely mumble the words to his own songs as he sat out front of the backup band on his keyboard. I made the mistake of buying his "completed works" of Pet Sounds. He thought it was his final version of his masterpiece, but it was just tedious. Very sad. He really screwed up "Good Vibrations".
I grew up with these guys and even surfed with Carl Wilson (drummer) at Hermosa Beach. Sometimes, you just need to let it go and live on your residuals and past fame.
I saw the same pathetic performance of the last Jan and Dean concert. Poor Dean had to carry Jan who was still messed up from his auto accident. Jan mumbled throughout the songs.
The only ones left of the era that can still play is The Rolling Stones, but they don't have much longer, either.
Thanks for the post .
” even surfed with Carl Wilson (drummer) at Hermosa Beach. “
Dennis was the drummer . Carl played guitar .
I’ve never surfed ( east coaster from CT ) , but have always been intrigued by the 50’s / 60’s surf culture as well as the music . Saw a very interesting docu-movie about the pioneers / legends of surfing on TV here in Japan a year or so ago - forget the title , though . It was fascinating !
P.S. I saw The Ventures here in Japan a couple of years ago and they ROCKED ! Only 2 original members ( with Mel Taylor’s son on drums ) , but they sounded as good as they ever did .
I saw Dick Dale at a small venue about 3 or 4 years ago. Fun show.
The Beach Boys were the greatest.....in the cold midwest, one could imagine Calif. by listening to their songs.
Beach Boys were OK - a vocal group singing hooky pop songs and used studio musicians albeit the great Hal Blaine and company.
I was always a Beatles fan but absolutely loved the Doors and the immensely underrated Yardbirds.
Their acapella rendition of “Their Hearts Were Full of Spring”, sung for the Reagans was the highlight (well, one of many) of the inaugural.
