“they would be guilty of violating the very document they are sworn to protect from, all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
The agenda would be control; there are persons who,for some reason, want to have power over others (wealth, etc.) On a personal level, I’ve found that power freaks are screwballs who become unhinged relatively easily.

in a land where there is freedom of speech protected by the constitution,
except if you're a Christian.I'm certain it's in the penumbra somewhere. They act like it is!

“no need for further communication. The way will be clear.”
Actually, communication would make countermoves more effective and efficient. Organization is key.
To: Silentgypsy
I should have said; the way will be clear to most of us.

What would be their rationale for shutting down the internet? This is the voice of the people, and in a land where there is freedom of speech protected by the constitution, they would be guilty of violating the very document they are sworn to protect from, all enemies, foreign and domestic. The answer is in your own words. The internet is a voice of the people.

You musta forgot your /sarc tag.
You could probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of people in the Legislative, Executive, and Judiciary branches that have any respect for that document, let alone know what it means.
They only use it when they think they can torture the wording to support yet another insane item on their insane agenda.
The overwhelming majority of people in all branches of government and its descendent regulatory and police agencies *ARE* domestic enemies of the Constitution.
Some of them are even foreign enemies.
Like our President.

The fact that this comes from a senior senator is frightening.

Schumer, if he has any intellect at all, has the most cynical regard for the Constitution.
He is unqualified to hold any public office. If it were up to me, I would not allow that communist to be a municipal trash man.

Ham Radio includes a radio-based internet service that could be used for this purpose, it is used to provide internet in disaster areas, and just for fun.

And if they shut down the internet, there is no way you can get access via wi-fi, mobile devices, or even two-way satellite as they all have to go back to a Tier 1 network, and thats where the switch will be. There IS a way to do it, but it requires obtaining a ham radio license and spending some money and acquiring some skill, which is to say, its out of the question for all but the elite few. But hey, well be willing to trade e-mail for gold, whiskey, ammo, or suitable trade goods ;-)Tier 1? And Ham radio - one ham can broadcast - millions with shortwave can listen... right?
