A Valley neighborhood is outraged after two dogs are shot and killed by local police.
The Shelburn Town Marshal says he was forced to shoot two dogs.
Officer Doug Inman says he was called to a field off Mill Street, where neighbors say a pack of dogs were fighting.
Inman tried to break-up the fight and even fired shots into the ground to scare the dogs.
When that didn't work he shot two mastiff puppies.
The family says he had no right to kill the dogs.
"I'm just glad it wasn't a child out being attacked by these two dogs," Inman said. "They are saying they were pups but you can go over and look at the dogs and see how large they are. They are probably between 75 and 100 pounds each and if that had been a child we would have a dead child out here."
"It makes me very sad, kids are supposed to be able to trust the police department and after seeing something like that, I don't know how they can," said dog owner Angie Waldon.
Neighbors say the two dogs had a history of being aggressive.
A dog that unexpectedly breaks free of its release is an example of a lack of foresight; a problem that merits a warning or a fine. Letting a dog wander the streets freely is owner irresponsibility.
While chaining a dog is not the best method of containing a dog, it is better than allowing said dog to wander loose around the neighborhood.
I’ll take your silence as an indication that you are perfectly willing to suggest that Freepers who, for whatever reason, do not have fenced property, should not own dogs and are negligent dog owners based on that fact alone.

Classic description of what too often happens when 911 is called for a disturbed person not taking their meds. Cops arrive and give disturbed person orders which he/she is not capable or willing to follow. Cops end up shooting disturbed person in “self defense.”
You have stated two opinions, not the truth.
Dogs permitted by the owner to run loose? Owner negligence and irresponsibility.
Dogs that get out upon provocation on one occasion? Not sufficient evidence of an irresponsible owner.
It’s crueler to deliberately allow a dog to run loose, risking that either it or a citizen will be injured or killed.
I find it ironic that you are more upset about a chained dog than a dead dog.
Pretty soom you’ll blame me for those poor dead dogs.
