Anyone who has ever used a firearm of any kind understands the dangers involved. Unlike most liberals who want to blame guns for all the violence they are used for, most conservatives understand the dangers involved in using guns.  After the recent shooting in Tucson, the media and the left came out attacking guns and right wing rhetoric for what one crazy leftist did. Yes, it was a deranged individual who had gotten himself involved with a movement that is so far left he thought his Democrat Congresswoman, Gabrielle Gifford, was a conservative nut that needed to be eliminated. I wrote about the Tucson shooter's infatuation with the zeitgeistist movement a few weeks ago.

As one of the few Democrats who has consistently stood in defense of our 2nd Amendment right, Gabrielle Gifford has respect for guns and understands that proper training is needed to ensure their proper use.  Let me say now that I pray for her, because it truly is my heartfelt desire that she will recover 100%.  When I think about the whole incident, I cannot help but get a little angry at the leftists, because every political assassination in the United States in the last 50 years has been done by the hand of leftist.  Those of us on the right in America have consistently taken our fight to the ballot box. We don't take our debate to the extreme that the leftists always do.

You see, as a rule conservatives understand that guns are the best used to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the criminals of our society.  We use them to defend our families, while the leftists continue allowing these criminals to use the revolving door called the justice system to repeatedly terrorize us. No, we won't use our guns against the left, as they do against us.  However we will defend ourselves, and in doing so we must practice so that we will be ready for the moment another criminal, the leftists paroled, decides that which is ours is theirs.

However, even when a person is properly trained accidents can and do happen from time to time. It is moments when these accidents happen that we hope to learn lessons for future reference. I offer these two videos so that you can see how dangerous weapons can be, even when used in a controlled environment that is meant to keep the shooter and others safe.  We live in a fallen world, so even the best of us make mistakes, and that is when accidents can happen.Sadly, even when we do everything right that which is unexpected can give one a near death experience.

You mean you actually know what “begging the question” means?

God bless you sir.

You have to wonder if some of those around us might have time to learn if they would only stop beating their spouses.

Ha.

Ah, I gotcha then.
I’m horrified at the facts of Ruby Ridge ant their implications:
— Fact: A more permissive ROE was used against American Citizens who had not been convicted of any crime than ANY of the ROEs in Afghanistan since the War on Terror began.

Implication: Your government is far more willing to kill you than people who are your sworn enemies.

Or just let you be killed. Witness; the Mexican border.

#1 could not apply to Mrs Weaver when she was shot: she was holding their infant. Even a technically “good shot” would endanger the baby as the mother could drop or fall atop that baby. Nor could #2 be construed to apply in the shot as she didn’t have a weapon, but a baby.

Even by what you posted the shot on Mrs Weaver was a violation of the ROE.

I’ve been shooting for years, mostly handguns, but this guy should have been wearing rubber or plastic underwear!

Oh, what a load o` crap the border situation is.
The Governor of one of the southern states could, rather easily, alter the political landscape even so far as to be accused of creating an international incident, yet be completely within their legitimate exercise of power. Here’s how:

First the Governor, as the head Executive of the state, declares a state of Emergency and Invasion due to the illegal immigration.
Then they Deploy their National Guard and call the [general population] militia to secure the border with deadly force authorization.
Next, demands for federal assistance are made to Washington DC as Art 4, Sec 4 guarantees the States protection from invasion (which they are experiencing).

Now we come to a possible branching-point with three outcomes:
1 — The federal government upholds its obligation to aid the State against invasion,
2 — The federal government tries to be neutral / ignore the problem, or
3 — The federal government acts against the State.

Now in #2 it would demonstrably show that the federal government has no interest {or even motivation} in protecting the people of the States from military invasion — this would provide an EXCELLENT reason for defending the DOD and Active Army, which is one of the top three money-hogs in federal spending (SS and Health & Human Services are the other two).

In #3 then we have ourselves actual, provable, traitors. Furthermore, I would probably [finally] be enough to get people angry enough to have Grand Juries out for Congressman-blood (in addition to Federal Agent/Employee or Judge who aids them).

You're wrong again...

Then, as Weaver, his 16-year-old daughter Sara,[48] and Harris ran back toward the house, Horiuchi fired a second bullet, which passed through Vicki Weaver's head, killing her, and wounded Harris in the chest. Vicki Weaver was standing behind the door through which Harris was entering the house, holding their 10-month-old baby Elisheba[48] in her arms.[49]

Horiuchi testified that he was shooting at Harris and that did fall within the special ROEs approved for that operation.

Only one problem with a state deploying the National Guard. They don’t have the money and would have to ask the Feds for funding. The Feds have everything check mated.

Thus proving that at the very least he should not have been trusted with a gun, much less a sniper... “Be sure of your target and its surroundings, including its backstop.”
That said, I don’t trust a thing HE said under oath; the whole Ruby Ridge incident stank.

They have enough to start-up operations... and I’m guessing that Citizens would donate ammo, food and logistical-supplies to their efforts because they’re getting damn fed up with the [non-]enforcement of our immigration law.

A 22 into the right spot of a toliet bowl will ricochet straight back at you.

In all my years at FR I'd never read that before...

In my year of shooting at the dump, I had never had that happen before or afterwards.

But then I don’t shoot at toliet bowls any more. They sometimes win. ;-)

Check out this video of an ATF firearms instructor instructing a classdroom full of children on the Glock .40 pistol.

Wow, the guy shot his own foot. What an,,,, well I am actually speechless as to what to say about the incident.

I read a comment on YouTube by someone who said that's what you get when you allow affirmative action to pick your cops.

I don't know, but it sure makes you wonder when the guy say's that he is the only one in the classroom qualified to use a Glock .40. I am betting a few of the gangbanger students could have given a safer demonstration then he did.

Hubby and I tried a few ranges around here, and one of them spit back shrapnel pretty regularly. I finally got a nasty bruise on my calf. We don’t go there anymore.

I guess the fact that I do my shooting in places away from ranges is why I don't see things like that happening. Your experience is definitely a common thing it seems, sadly.

Nothing is 100% safe, regardless of what the libs try to do through legislation, don't you think.

A fifty caliber rubber bullet?

Would seem that's the only thing that would do that, but fact is it was a real bullet.

Lon Horiuchi was FBI. Also he was acting under ROEs established by a higher up.

Yes, I knew that. I really should have used a different analogy, but it was more knee-jerk so I wasn't thinking.

Well I was, but I was thinking of being funny and thus did not think long enough about it.

Not necessarily, the round may not have had the force to puncture & penetrate the skull. Further the 6.5mm you’re quoting is [perpendicular] thickness, but the bullet wasn’t traveling perpendicular to the skull and would have to pierce MORE than 6.5mm.

Good point. The bullet could have grazed his head even if the skull was thinner. Kind of like the asteroid that hit Russia in the early 1900s. They figure it really just skimmed the earth and thus the explosion that blew up the forest. It wasn't a straight forward shot that would have penetrated, but the damage still could have been pretty seveer.

he went over to show someone that the gun was unloaded and, in so doing, engaged the slide stop. Then he just released the slide on a loaded magazine and proceeded to squeeze the trigger for some reason which resulted in an AD which resulted in him shooting himself. I have seen other dipsticks do this too with similar results. Another good one is closing the bolt on a loaded open bolt machine gun thinking it’s just like an M16A2. It isn’t. I saw a guy get shot in the thigh by an M240 MG at the clearing pit. Pretty sure that’s what happened.

We voted against that range with our feet. If enough marksmen do the same, the offending range will go out of business or correct the problem. Either way, freedom is preserved for them and for us. It’s the conservative way of doing things.

It wouldn’t occur to us to sue them for a bruise.

We have about six acres to work with around our home, and we’re planning to set up a range in the back yard in a hollow where the noise won’t bother the neighbors, and a loamy hillside will be behind our targets. It’s on our list of summer projects.
