Lupus (SLE, CLE, SCLE) is a debilitating autoimmune disease, and while its affects on each individual can vary widely, left unchecked, it can cause permanent damage to skin, kidneys, lungs, heart and the central nervous system. I asked someone once how she would describe Lupus, she responded, Its your body kicking its own butt, and in fact that describes Lupus as good as anything Ive heard. For reasons the medical community still has not determined (although its trying), a persons immune system turns on itself attacking skin, kidneys, lungs, heart
even the central nervous system.

Auto-Immune Diseases Suck Ping!
Keep on eye on Human Genome Science (HGSI) and Glaxo Smith-Klein (GSK) — their antibody-based treatment Benlysta is expected to pass FDA review in March as the first novel treatment for Lupus in well over 50 years, specifically targeted at SLE.
It’s not a cure, and it doesn’t seem to work for all cases, but for those in whom it does work, the results are (anecdotally, at least) dramatic.
Thank-you for your response. I have been keeping a close eye on that treatment since late 2008, when WABC AM first annouced it on a news report.
Yeah. In the interest of full disclose, Mrs. kevkrom used to work for Human Genome Sciences before she quit to be a full-time stay-at-home mom, and we still own some HGSI stock.
Thank you for the post. I was diagnosed some years ago during a bad episode. Fortunately, I have a mild form. Unfortunately, my daughter has a much more severe form. I am most appreciative of efforts on behalf of this disease.
I have it... the rare male victim - its in remission. At its worst, the swollen joints make one feel like an old man. And one gets tired easily.
