There most certainly are residual traces in that the genes work perfectly in the blackest of black people, and they work less so in the whitest of white people, and not at all in an albino.
The genes work perfectly well in both light and dark people. It takes about 1000 years before skin color starts to shift lighter or darker in a population depending on where it moves to.

What is the mechanism that causes it to “shift lighter or darker” in 1000 years if not changes in DNA?
Are there another molecule that get passed on hereditary that only you know about?
