LOL...no kidding. No one mentioned the lightning storm that was inbound.
You could not pay me enough to do that....I got the heebie jeebies just watching this.....and then they put to guys on that platform at the very top.......

I’m just as sorry as I can be, but I’m afraid the world would have to live in darkness if they depended on me doing something like that.

Amazing to me as a private pilot I shouldn’t be bothered by that, but it gave me the willys. I guess in an aircraft it is just different. I was ok until he left the caged area, then the pucker factor went sky high.
I applied for a job doing this when I got out of the service. After visiting a job site, looking up, and seeing that tower bend and sway, I said no thanks.

But I personally would have weighed about 5 pounds less.... and the grass around the base of the tower would be very green and lush.

I realize a 1700 ft plus tower has to have a lot of cable support, but they can’t tell me that with the added weight of two men at the very top there is not going to be some swaying going on. The very thought of it swaying - even a little bit - watching those guys at the top was giving me the Chris Matthews tingle leg. As far as I’m concerned, those guys deserve top dollar.
The fees used to be (back in the 70s):
$35 hour travel time.
$1 a foot up
and $140 for each “in air” hour.

A station in TX I worked for and a tiny one man elevator up to the 1700 foot level. It was sort of a “rite of passage” for new reporters.
It was “fun” to look DOWN on a passing 182!
