It takes a lot more than arm strength to be a good QB. His interceptions the last two years are a function of him being a poor decision maker, last year had a bit of a spike but this year he landed right between his two years in Denver. Cutler MIGHT be near the top for Bears’ history, but much like his supposed arm strength” that’s not really an impressive thing. And if you’re going to blame his stats on not having anybody to throw to that goes back to what I said about the Bears giving up too much to get him, Mike Wallace was drafted in the 3rd round of 2009, if the Bears had still had their 3rd round 2009 pick he could be a Bear, just one example of a receiver they didn’t get because they gave up 3 first day draft picks to get Cutler.
Just look at his numbers this year, 17th in passing yards, 19th in completion percentage, 13th in TDs, 16th in passer rating. His only top 10 stat this year is a negative, INTs.
He’s at best a so-so QB and the Bears over paid to get him.
About half of his interceptions are reciever and protection related. The Broncos haven’t exactly flourished with what the Bears gave them. They may not even resign Ortman.
That still leaves the other half, which are brain related. Just because the Broncos didn’t use the picks well doesn’t mean the Bears didn’t over pay for him. 2 1sts and a 3rd for a guy who’s middle of the pack in most statistics is quite simply a bad trade. It is symptomatic of the problems that have plagued the Bears forever though, smart teams tend to acquire picks for players, not he other way around. Notice how the Pats are going to have 6 first day picks this year, and this will be the first time in 3 years the Bears have a 1st round pick at all (assuming they don’t find a way to trade it away). If you mortgage the farm for a QB then you’re really not allowed to be surprised when he doesn’t have an o-line to keep him standing or WRs to throw to.
The Bears have drafted poorly in recent years so I’d prefer to get proven players then let them pick. He’s not just average. He’s above average.
If your people don’t have the ability to draft talent they won’t have the ability to trade for talent. And no he’s not above average, again look at the stats, 13th, 17, 19th, 16th, that puts him in the middle of the pack, which means average.
If you were to put a truly average NFL QB on this team, they would have finished with about 4 wins. Cutler’s numbers are skewed by the team’s other deficiencies.
Sort by whatever column you want. Notice that over and over again he winds up in the teens or worse, ie the middle of the pack, where the C students live. He is very nearly the definition of average.
You seem to have forgotten how the Bears defense and special teams are both near the top of the pack. It’s very easy for a so-so QB to do pretty well with that team. Heck even Rex Grossman (a significantly worse QB than Cutler) managed to ride that combo to the Super Bowl. Cutler’s numbers aren’t skewed, he just plain isn’t that good. He’s been so-so for 4 straight years on 2 different teams, and no matter how hard you stick your fingers in your ear, or how loud you chant “LALALALAALALALA” the facts remain the same. Jay Cutler is average. You can have the last word if you insist, try not to make is inadvertently laughable.
More complicated but also more interesting stats:

Again, Cutler = so-so.
So Kyle Orton and Shaun Hill are better QBs? If you had a choice of the three which would you take? He ranks low because the Bears offense lacked weapons.
A QB isn’t about his stats, the most important thing about a QB is his leadership abilities, will he make the guys around him play better.
That’s why I think Tebow has a shot in Denver, you can see the impact he has on the guys around him. Even if his stats aren’t great, you can already see that when he steps out on that field, he is the leader of that team, and he has the respect of every player.
I just don’t see how Cutler inspires that in other players.
Well the players say he does. I can’t imagine many QBs short of Brady or Manning making the NFC title game with that O line and those recievers.
