“Skidmore policy is to immediately suspend students accused of a felony.” and “A Skidmore spokeswoman says the college is providing support and counsel to the students.” A little contradictory, no? Sounds like legal counsel and not mere counselling, an expensive proposition.
My daughter did a summer program at Skidmore - my impression of Saratoga Springs, rich, white, chichi/twee. Maybe I’m wrong but if there are any sizeable number of blacks there the college is working hard to bring them in and handing out full scholarships, because black students aren’t just lined up to go to a college in a white, twee town out in the boonies. So Skidmore is protecting its investment.

The concept of “hate crimes” is idiotic. If the victim was Black in this case, the charges in the context of “hate crimes” would be less criminal - which is racist!

Violence from blacks has got to stop. FBI statistics show that violent interracial crime is 9-1 black-on-white. It’s past time this gets addressed.
I realize I am being redundant here, BUT lets say the headline read “White Students Attack Black Man for Eating Dinner With White Man”, something tells me the first the population in general heard of it was on a forum like this.
I watched the tape and the guy that is charged with the ‘hate’ crime is very light skinned but they said the other 3 are just charged with misdemeanor assault at this time.
They also said the guy charged was hurling racial insults at the black deputy - that is probably where the ‘hate’ crime is being invoked...
Guess they will get let off on the ‘mob mentality’ clause.

The victim of the assault, Christopher McCarthy, was treated for his injuries at Saratoga Hospital.
McCarthy, who is white, was seated inside the restaurant with his friend George Parker, who is black, police said.
Parker is a Saratoga County sheriff’s deputy who was off-duty at the time of the incident, according to a law enforcement source who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the case.
The four students allegedly involved in the attack are all black or Hispanic. The racial epithets were directed at Parker and included Tavarez asking why a black man was sitting with a white man, police said.
When Parker stepped away from the table to use the bathroom, Tavarez allegedly approached McCarthy and was joined by the other three students in assaulting him.
According to a statement provided to police by a witness, “Justin began to attempt to strike. Once that happened, the rest of Justin’s group got up from the booth and began to attack Chris.”
The group threw McCarthy against the wall and began to punch and kick him. One of them struck McCarthy with a chair, and Tavarez broke a dish over the man’s head, according to the witness.
Tavarez, a Bronx, N.Y. resident, was charged with the felonies of second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both as hate crimes. The hate crime status elevates the charges to felonies.
Tavarez was also charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is free after posting $5,000 bail and is scheduled to return to City Court on Feb. 1.

truth to power: I do not know of an instance where skidmore has sent an employee to court with a student for an off-campus incident as they did with this student...why is that the case, i wonder? Look it up...skidmore student, off campus incident, school employee goes to court with said student...check it out...this is a first, question...why? an equal opportunity school/supporter...hmmmm...truth to power...not!!!!
The question hovering, unasked: Why did the guy’s black buddy suddenly decide to go take a leak, leaving his friend wide open to attack? I sure as hell would not abandon my buddy if i though he was under threat..........
The sheriff’s deputy picked a great time to go to the bathroom. Thanks, buddy. Off duty and probably carrying, he could have sorted this out before his “friend” got beaten up.
