I'm tired of hearing some people, even from FR say that we need to "rise above the fray"!

I'm sick and tire some on our side buying into the myth that if we just "rise above the fray" from attacks that are scurrilous and baseless that we will somehow win the arguments against us! That's pure bull!

We are playing right into the hands of the MSM and liberals when we act civil and honorable "according to their rules of acting civil and honorable" which is to shut up and sit down about conservatism and not fight back. The only kind of people that the left and MSM consider honorable are people like Bob Dole and John McCain both of whom lost by not fighting.

Speaking of McCain, notice how 'civil' he was in 2008 "[Senator Obama] is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared about as President of the United States,". There's a difference between rhetoric and record, but you can still be respectful," McCain said to one questioner. "I will point out his record and I will do it with respect."

Did Obama act respectful and civil? Linking President Bush and Senator John McCain as partners in “the failed policies” of the past seven years and criticizing them for “hypocrisy, fear peddling, fear mongering.”? "They're going to try to make you afraid of me. They're going to say you know what, "He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. Did I mention he's black?"

The MSM called McCain's rallies vitriolic and tinged with racism and hateful but said that Obama has run a clean, non-slanderous campaign and deserves respect. He is the one that wishes to address the issues and look how wonderful Obama is, he will help heal the nation.!!!

What happened in 2008 is almost happening in 2011 with the attacks on Sarah over the Tucson attacks; Barack Obama stood back for days and let his supporters in the media and left rip Palin apart, only then to proclaim that we don't really know what happened in Tuscon and let the media narrative was how wonderful Obama is!

But this time Sarah fought back after a few days and only had a few choice towards the media, and the left and media STILL ATTACKED HER OVER IT'!

If all the others here or pundits like Dick Morris or even FOX NEWS are gonna sit around and watch this happen and say "don't do nothing" or be tepid in a response at best then they need a brain analysis. If Conservatives cannot defend themselves over these baseless, libelous charges then they got no business running. period!

I agree with you 100%. All this talk of “civility” is really meant to quite Conservatives.

It doesnt seem to apply to Liberals..

There is a fight going on for the “direction of this country” and we simply cannot stand down.

Not violent, just no longer silent!

The Founding Fathers were not always civil but many think they were. Did they use foul obscene language? No. But they did speak forcefully and at times rudely.

Didn't Hamilton and Burr fight a pistol duel over a disagreement? I also recall that a pro-slavery representative beat an abolitionist to death in the Chamber.

Hey Jengis-Kerry, would you approve of me fashioning a whip and driving the communists out of the Nation's capital?

I heard duels were a way to “settle” things. Perhaps it’s time to go back to our old ways.

Oops, am I allowed to say that?

There's a difference between truth and abuse.

Truth needed be punctuated harshly.

Have you seen the language used in places like Facebook, or DU, or even spoken between people at work or at parties? We do really need to be "above the fray" when we talk about the things that really matter to our republic. There can never be a spirit of compromise if we angry and busy with insults and derrogative comments. That sort of discourse spends little time on the issues.

I was not scolding the author or any other poster about his specific use of foul language. I am taking issue with the idea that we shouldn't "rise above the fray" when we have political discussions, even if those with whom we speak are vulgar. I take issue with the stance of the thread: we DO NEED TO RISE ABOVE THE FRAY.

I don't think it would work. I will join you should it come to force of arms.

I hear extreme vulgarity at work, and I see it posted on Facebook pages. This is precisely why I posted my admonition (ie, reminder) in the first place. "Being tired of hearing some people, even from FR say that we need to "rise above the fray"" is an stance with I will take issue.

Then save your admonishments for your work place and Facebook. If you have a problem with outside venues, why are you using it as an excuse to smear Free Republic? Take your arguments where you witness such behavior.

I have serious doubt about the veracity of your claims because, on this thread, you went so far as to disparage the Christianity of a FReeper. Is that your idea of civil discourse?

You're going to have an awful hard time denying your behavior. Not only can we see your post; we also have the responses by all the other posters. Are you going to claim that they all misunderstood your intellectually superior nuance?

It seems that you and many others here want to "get with the fray". You certainly want to work hard at taking issue with the point I'm trying to make by attacking me merely because I rather clumsily injected by comment.

I "attacked" your behavior. You seem to be waiving the white flag of passivity while smearing FReepers. I gave you a long list of examples describing how the left seeks to silence and destroy us. You failed to address it.

If you haven't the stomach to resist evil you're simply a stumbling block for those of us willing to fight to regain our Nation.

I try.

I can only assume/hope/trust that you are also very sucessful at it. I do indeed wish you well.

I really wasn't aiming to punish or scold anybody. My wording was certainly stupidly done; and, I understand how offense could be taken.

I was trying to admonish all of us to be more gentlemanly with our politics than typically occurs these days. We've got to spend more effort solving problems then creating ill-will and consequently more problems.

Many people who have wronged me the most are those who claimed to be good Christians prior to giving the old screw job.

You seem to making whatever interpretations and ignoring anything else I have said in order to justify you stand against me.

Do they fight evil with evil, or do they "Rise above the Fray"?

The only thing I wanted is an apology to ClearCase. He didn’t use any abusive vulgar language as you stated in your post #7.

I wish you well also. I just hate to have any fellow FReeper insulted for something he/she did not do. That is all.

I understand your wanting to be gentlemanly; however, we are at war. I don’t believe there is any room for it. Evil needs to be stomped out whenever we are able to do so.

I just don’t want us fighting amongst ourselves.....which is their goal.

Are you going to claim that they all misunderstood your intellectually superior nuance?

Yep. If you read my posts, you will see several instances where I admitted that my post was poorly worded and poorly injected into the conversation.

Your barrage of attacks against me are very revealing about the "state of statesmanship" in our Nation. Look how much effort you took taking me to task, all without discussing the original post's notion of I'm tired of hearing some people, even from FR say that we need to "rise above the fray"!. All of my efforts are an attempt, however feeble, to deal with that premise. We won't save our Republic by acting like those ill-temperd opponents. We will save our Nation through deft statesmanship or civil war. We won't save it by keeping people so pissed off that they are unwilling to seek compromise.

How can we work against our opponents if we spend so much of our combative efforts within our own ranks?

I don't go to DU. I see no sense in arguing with idiots. They simply drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I've reserved the use of foul language for cases when subordinants are in extreme need of a reprimand. Never underestimate the effectiveness of the carefully chosen, strategically executed vulgarity. Such is only used when necessary to correct particularly poor performance and unacceptable behavior. There are times when "Gee Whiz" and "Oh Golly" don't quite do it.

After one such intervention, I found myself called into my director's office. He voiced strong approval for the "intervention." Of course, the session focused on the behavior and wasn't simply a "swear fest."

Incidently, the individual straightened up and left with a Commendation medal, written by your's truly. Go figure. Do you think a drum circle followed by "Kumbya" would have been as effective?

Not raising ones voice is a different issue, the fact is that he always fought back against his enemies be they political or military. The reason he did not ( in our knowledge) raise his voice was his intimidating appearance. He was very aware that he was an over whelming presence at all times and occasions.

Many people who have wronged me the most are those who claimed to be good Christians prior to giving the old screw job.

Therefore you disparage a member of this Forum who identifies himself as a Christian. Now that's progressive!

I guess that answers my question about your definition of civil discourse.
