Wasn't there a story on FR a while back about a guy that had a .45 in a bear's mouth (because the bear was eating him) and he fired repeatedly until the bear's mouth kept the slide on the .45 back and out of battery? And then his buddy ran up and shot the bear point blank with a rifle? Several times? And the bear ran off?
And the guy with the .45 (shooting from within the bear's mouth) got torn up pretty badly?
Anybody remember that story?
The tazer guys can KMA. I want a standoff .50BMG round(s).

I was very skeptical of bear spray until I read some hunters endorse it. I heard it was endorsed by the federal bureaucrats who's job it is to protect bears and not people. But if hunters give it an ok, then I would give it a second thought.
This thing I am extremely skeptical. Bear spray has a large canister and a wide cloud. Sounds like a one shot thing. You miss, by-by as other Freepers have said. Fundamentally, weather it or Bear spray works, it should be up to the person to use a gun or not if their life is endanger.

What a laugh. Amyone who has been around bear and moose will tell you, that if two of those electrodes stick on through heavy matts of fur, and then far enough into the hide, it is a "lucky" tazer shot. The damn electrodes should be pointed barbed hooks like miniature harpoons. Gimme my 44 mag Ruger Super Blackhawk. Any day.I would never trade it for one of these tazer rigs.Looks like it might work well getting night crawlers up out of the soil, or maybe fishing a shallow pool. Save lives? These people are irresponsible idiots.

Tranquilizers aren’t safe for the humans involved. Despite what you see in movies and TV, it takes approx 20 minutes for a tranquilizer dart to sedate the animal. That’s enough time to get eaten and partially digested. This technology could stop an animal intent on hurting you, without killing the animal.

Maybe they were hoping that bears like their dinner fried, not raw.

Better than pepper spray or little bells, which is all you have in Canada. Also known as condiments and dinner bells.

"Bear is advancing at 25 mph.
Max range of weapon 35 feet.
First shot is ineffective.
How much time does the shooter have to get off the second and third shots?"
Slightly less than one second.

A friend of mine once told me that the best anti-geteatenbyabear device ever created was the simple .22LR pistol. You don’t have to hurt the bear, you only need to have a hunting buddy to shoot in the leg.
