Five people accused of robbing a home in Marion County last month admit they stole and snorted what they thought was cocaine. Turns out, the powder was actually the ashes of a woman's father and her two Great Danes.

What is insane is that human ashes are not like powder but like small gravel, they always contain small bone fragments and even surgical pins, staples and so on! How did they explain the presence of bone fragments?

Not true. A similar thing happened in MA a few years ago. Sans "Daddy".
Thieves broke in, saw a container with "Charlie" (a street name for
cocaine) on it, and proceeded to snort the remains of the former
family dog.
The best fictional take-off, imho, was the Married...with
Children Labor Day cookout epi.

My wife discovered that when she spread her mom’s ashes over the beach and ocean. She was alone. Traumatizing, to say the least.
To: JennysCool
Was that the film where the wind coning off the ocean blew the ashes back in their faces?

the powder was actually the ashes of a woman's father and her two Great Danes I could see it if they were Schnozzers....
